How to convince my parents to let me get a KA-BAR!

Tell them its a classic and no collection is complete without one. ;)

You are 16? you should be able to have any knife you want.

But then, I am not your parents.

i know. its my mom whos really uptight aboot it though. also my little brothers copy whatever i do and a large fixed blade would make them want something like that. my dad is ok with it

not to brag or anything but since i got my first swiss army knife (given to me by my uncle) my parents have never even tried to control my knife purchases. Now at the tender age of 15 i have ammassed 60+ knives and eight guns. Hmm... i guess all parents are different. Well good luck, those ka-bars have always tickled my fancy. I am going to have to pick one up soon enough. And if you can't convince your parents about the ka-bar try to convince them for a buck 119 special. they can be had for 35 ish from walmart and although they are a little shorter and maybe not as quite as robust it is a classic more hunting orientated knife. Maybe something your parents would agree with more. Well again best of wishes

rifles right? you dont own any pistols do you? thanks anyway i think im going to be able to convince them

I'm guessing not old enough to have proper punctuation :D.

Get a smaller fixed blade first, once they're used to having you own small fixed blades, you could probably start getting larger blades.

I'm 28 and don't have proper punctuaton.:D

You might point out to your mom thtat a KA-Bar has the potential to be a lethal weapon, but they are used primarily as a tool for opening crates, packages, and other utility purposes. Also point out that its potential as a weapon is less than a baseball bat, which are common and available. Finally point out to her that you have used your other knives responsibly, because she taught you to be responsible.

those are great tips thanks

I've owned a CRKT M16-13M (now long gone lost) since I was like 12. Quit your bellyaching get a nice smaller knife, honestly a 7" Ka-Bar isn't exactly good utility material, you could do a lot better. Try something more elegant.

yah but when you are older you can get anything pretty much aslong as its not fully automatic or over 40 cal. ill move to the USA when im older (im duel)
When I'm older?

Maybe if I move out of the city. Meanwhile, these will keep me entertained.

I was going to add my thoughts, but I think this pretty much covers it.

I would focus on the fact that just because it has the potential to be used as a weapon, it does not mean that a weapon is the only purpose it can serve. At least, that's what I would do. Anything can be a weapon, I could beat you to death with a sturdy shoe. You can explain that unfortunatley, a knife is used as a weapon more than other objects, so that is how alot of people view it, instead of it's main role, a tool. I also suggest you opt a knife that has more sheeple friendly looks. Good luck.

Edit: Fudo pretty much already said what I was trying to say. Basically, yeah it can be a weapon, but it is mainly a tool.

Sorry, kid, you already screwed up. You should have asked for the Hell Razor and "settled" for the Ka-Bar. Next time you'll know. :-)

It gets worse. If you're very, very lucky, you'll graduate from haggling with your parents over getting knives to haggling with your wife over getting knives.

But I do feel your pain. I really, really want a SureFire 6p and a Streamlight Scorpion LED. My wife rightfully points out I can already make our house into a passable imitation of the Las Vegas Strip with the lights I have on hand during the next blackout. I really, really want a Spyderco Caly3 and a Kopa. My wife points out I have enough blades in the house to fend off the next alien invasion singlehandedly.

Such is life. We have enough. We want more. I learned me that from a "Kung Fu" tv episode... :-)
