Short and sweet, bought a knife in "near mint" condition. It arrived with a burn on the spine near the tip. I like the knife and don't think ill find another so what should I do because im not entirely happy with condition? Ask for a small refund of a portion of the price? Do nothing since I still want to keep it but im just upset about the condition? I don't know what to do or what would be the proper course of action. help

I have had something similar happen before. I'd suggest asking for a partial refund (nothing too crazy). If they refuse, you can either accept the condition of the knife or send it back for a full refund. Just depends on how badly you want the knife and how difficult it would be to find again. We need more details of the transaction though.

In my case, I just accepted the condition of the knife. It was either full refund or nothing, some people are just uncooperative.

Btw the total cost of the knife was 55 shipped. so if i should ask ofr a small refund back what amount like $5? $10? is 10 or 20 percent of the original sale price too much to ask for a small blemish? even thought that blemish is on a "near mint" blade?

I asked for a $7.50 refund for the small blemish. Balls in his court now, i will update info as i get it.

With the lower cost knives, I personally wouldn't even waste my time with a partial refund. I'd either keep it or return it, still depends on the severity of the blemish and the difficulty of replacement. Pics would probably be a good idea.

I think it is fair for you to request a small refund for the knife not being what it was advertised to be. The Seller has a responsibility to properly describe with words & photos of any blemish.

its not expensive but i cant find one for sale online. Its a GEC and its stamped 1 of 25. Anywho i tried to get a good pic of the burn and it got this

UPDATE: Refund Granted! let that be a lesson to all of those A holes ive been seeing in the GB&U forum. I said why i wasnt happy, he remembered the burn and forgot to mention it and explained he was stating the edge was (near factory mint), and offered the refund i asked for RIGHT AWAY. Thas how is done folks, btw his name is Eric H and he is getting nothing but positive feedback. Take notes those who give a hard time about your customers happiness!

I would look at it this way, would knowing about the blemish have caused you to not buy it or not pay as much? Honestly i think that we are getting so worried about being taken advantage of that we take every transaction personnally. If you like the knife and it was hard to get, just realize you probably would have paid the same or even more just to obtain it even with the blem (i know i would have). If you can't stand the sight of the knife and the feeling you get, then send it back for a full refund. Besides, how do you put a value on a blemish? 1% of the knife is flawed so i want my 1% refund?;) (my poor attempt at levity)

i bought a s90v cf manix 2 that was labeled as NIB and got to me and had obviously been sharpened and carried. paid 400 for it and asked for 200 back.... he agreed. Keep in mind he had NOTHING into this knife because it was a gift, he spoke to someone who knew something about knives and went back on our agreement for 200 back, and only gave me 100 back. All in all 300 for a user s90v manix 2 wasnt bad at all, but it goes to show if your nice about it you should beable to get something.

In response to your question above, "No opinions at all?"

Yes, I have an opinion. It is my opinion, that for something this minor on a knife, this inexpensive and then to burn up band width on this forum over a $7.50 partial refund is a little bit absurd. I am not saying you were not within your rights to seek a remedy IF it was all that important and critical to your financial well being, but I'm not sure it rises to the level of seeking advice and support on the forum.

The money wasnt what i was worried about, it was the first time a knife came to me not as described so I wanted advice on how to handle it. Whether is is a $55 knife of a $550 knife i just wanted to know what is a general rule of thumb for a situation like this, and what is the best way to handle it. This was more of a learning experience for the future than actually calling for help for $7.
