How to heat treat THICK 52100???

Not sure if this will apply to you or not. But depending on which forge I use to HT and the length of the knife, my tangs do not get as hard (and sometimes they're not hardened at all) as the blade. Did they take the Rc test on the blade or tang? I guess if you got the entire knife to temp then it doesn't matter. Just something to keep in mind for those who don't get their tangs as hot as the blade.

BTW, nice blade! And I'm not gonna comment on the feet ;)

The entire blade was heat treated. Its hardness was measured about 1 3/4" back from the tip, about 1/2" back from where the flat spot starts on the grind, and again about another 1 1/2" down the blade from that. I am pretty confident that the size of my quench tank is a big part of the problem now, as I have ruled out many other variables to this point. I have made several other blades from this same sheet of steel that have gotten harder then this one. Which is what is leading me to believe that the large size of the blade compared to the small size of the quench tank is my problem.

And I've always managed to keep my feet out of pictures in the past.....don't know what happened on this one. LOL
