How to make kydex the cost effective way

another material i've wanted to try is those large rawhide bone shaped Dog chews from the pet store .heat and soften in boiling water, cut and shape like kydex, and try hot waxing to water proof.

Cool link, don't think I would do it for a knife I intend to carry but I have several knives I keep around the shop that could use a sheath. It's something to do while it's cold outside. Thanks

Detergent jugs seem a lot thicker then milk jugs, I would think it would make a durable sheath.

I'm interested to see what kinda home brew people come up with for the lite machete

Though the Lite Machete will have a mega-basic nylon canvas sheath, so you'll have something at least. ;)

not only that, it's a cheap way to make templates and perfect your setup before cutting into the kydex.

thats true 1066 also would love for everyone to come backj and post the pics of what you did do i know i will as soon as my wife and mother in law empty some detergent and milk jugs

5 gallon buckets work really well, too - and most of them aren't made to UV degrade. Stop at any fast food joint and ask if they have a spare.
you can also use sour cream or margarine tubs, etc... or the refillable soda cups from kwik shop or whatever you have in your area.

I would of never thought of that in a million years, a milk jug as a sheath. That would be a great way to save some dough!

well I had some time today and tried my hand at a milk jug just to see if i could by no means will I be going into biusness anytime soon lol but not too bad for my first time I dont think the grommets I got are a little on the big side would really like to find some smaller ones but the knife I made it for is a project in the works too .

Has anybody ever used the removable plastic sheet bottom of those reuseable cloth "green" bags. Its a little stiffer then a jug you have to be careful heating it,It has a nice texure and is already black ive used it on a few knives just on nothing i carry outside.

I was reading this and I was wondering if an old plastic trash can would work?I know many of these are soft and flexible. It's unfortunate but in rural areas you too often see where people have left such things lying on the roadside or have just created dumps in remote areas. It might be one way we could lend to recycling and do our part:D? I also have some short lidless plastic tubs that are similar to those plastic tubs bus boys use in restaurants and they come in colors ranging from dark green, black and red. Just a thought:)
