How to tell that a Spyderco PM2...described "As New in Box"...isn't...

RevDevil and I did speak briefly about this situation. I know that he is totally aware and concerned, and is diligently pursuing ways to maximize the probability of receiving a blade in the mail...exactly and fully as described by the seller. I do thank RevDevil for his willingness to study this situation, regardless of the outcome.

There are times when some folks will just omit things...or purposely deceive...or truly fail to notice a small scratch on the blade. As long as I am willing to purchase items from the Exchange...knowing that they have been pre-owned, then it's imperative that I ask and receive honest answers to pertinent questions, have access to a good set of closeup pics of the folder, and finally...reach agreement with the owner that the deal is "done" when both parties are satisified...and NOT before.

This has been an issue for awhile now, and there has been other posts about it. It is a very valid concern... It wasn't that many years ago this issue never, or very rarely came up.
As Charlie mentioned, he is aware of the problem and looking into ways to fix or improve the situation, but like most of the Mods here, he already has enough to do. He shouldn't have to babysit members that are less than honest about their listings.

I was looking at a knife the other day but I can't remember now if it was here or on the auction site. The listing said, " New. Never used or carried".
While the knife itself looked like it could pass for new, the pocket clip had heavy finish wear on the edges, as well as the flats of the clip. I've owned enough Benchmades over the years to know for certain they don't send knives out with clips that show that kind of wear. Heck I've carried the same knife daily for a few years straight, so I know how much it takes to develop that kind of wear...

While this is off the original topic of this post, there is another thing that has changed that is somewhat irritating... Poor communication...
When I sell something, I always send the buyer the tracking number and ask that they notify me when it arrives, and let me know that they are happy with the knife, or if for some reason they don't think it is exactly what I described.
That has never happened to me, but I like to know for sure. I don't want someone buying something from me and then when it arrives saying to themselves, "This really isn't what he said it was, or what it looked like in the pictures", and keeping it because it is easier, because if there is ever any doubt, I will always offer a refund.
When I buy something, I have expectations of what it will look like when it arrives, and I know others do too. This is a hobby for most of us, so it should be fun. When you buy something and it isn't as described, it is disappointing. Not the end of the world, but it takes some of the fun out of it...

It seems over the last few years once I send someone a message with tracking info and ask them to contact me when it arrives, I never hear from them again... I always try to keep track of things I have shipped to make sure they arrived where they were going, but that doesn't let me know that they are happy with the knife. It only takes a minute or so to send a quick message...
I know they always say, No news is good news, but I don't think that is always true...

In all fairness, most of the people I have dealt with lately have been very good about communicating.

I mean...good gosh...bitch..bitch..BITCH! That's all I do...
...and then I get a package in the mail one hour ago...that is BEAUTIFUL.
Yes, the knife was described as such.."Like new, used/carried maybe once, box/papers included."
It is a beaut, folks! ZT 0566CF M390 What a gorgeous folder! And it IS PERFECT.

Thank you, Joey Viner, who will very shortly have a Feedback Score of 98 @ 100% Positive. Thanks, Joey.
You've made me very happy today...and have restored my faith in the integrity of the thousands of nice folks here.
I've included just three shots to show you guys how nice it is... I'll try to review this folder at a later date, when I've had time to figure out whether this ZT will kick my Southard AVO out of my pocket...

Hey Don. I was the one, couple weeks ago, who beat you to a Cruwear Millie from mikethemayt, absolute gentleman of the highest order, by about 2 minutes. I mention this because not only was the knife as described, it was much better! It was like he purposely under described it. Comms couldn't have been better or funnier!! Don't mean to rub it in at all. Just want to let you know I've seen the same thing with a bit of a twist.
Bought a knife described as LNIB......never cut anything or sharpened. All true......but it's a flipper that will not flip. No detent or very little.
I'm very new here and had a GREAT first impression with that Millie....better than great really......and took it for granted that's how it would always be......it's not.
It's partly our, the buyer's, fault because we will rush in occasionally......ok most of the time!! We should be more careful.
It sucks too.....sometimes you'll lose out on a deal being careful. I'll be more aware of who I deal with in the future.

Called the manufacturer for the flipper that doesn't flip. Sending it in Monday and will be without a new to me knife for over a month........
Sorry for the ramble......but thanks for posting this.
Joe

I am sorry that you got a flipper that wouldn't. I also bought a rather expensive mid-tech...by a famous customs guy...that looked new but would not flip...without some wrist-flip assistance. I sold it with full disclosure...it was a little too heavy-duty for me...and it is now in the hands of an expert who will customize it as per the demands of the new owner.
Speaking of mikethemayt, I have dealt with him previously and agree...he's a great guy. Palonej...that CruWear steel should treat you very well. Very nice steel.
Don
