how to you manage your other "hobbies"

Well, the past few months since I started collecting knives, I really got into backpacking and hiking. I literally don't think about anything else besides my car which I just spent $800 for new suspension that I have to install myself. I was really into the Magic card game, but I think I'm past that point for now. Hopefully I won't go back, that was the most expensive hobby I've ever had haha

My hobbies are collecting weapons(not just knives), collecting and listening to CDs, watching movies, and playing WoW. Typically, I buy 1-2 blades a week, but if a new movie I want to see/own comes out in the theater/on DVD, or if a new CD I want is out, I simply don't buy a blade that week and get the movie/CD instead, with the leftover(if any) being saved for next week's order. Or maybe or instead of spending $50 on a Condor or Aranyik, I get the $15 CD then use the $35 to pick up something like a Skyline or Tenacious.

My WoW sub is $40 every 3 months, so again, the week my sub is due I simply refrain from buying a blade.

I just wish there were 48 hours in a day. I like shooting(not hunting) but ammo is getting scarce and expensive. I restore old air-cooled VW's. I used to build computers, but I have a troll who has taken up residence and steals parts right off my bench :). I also make jewelry, boxes, and stuff like that. I was a gold-smith for 35 years, but it is now a hobby.

I was also a guitar collector with major GAS ( gear acquisition syndrome ) and had to keep buying a flipping gear for new gear. I have cut it out with some better gear and really don't go to guitar shops at all anymore.
I have Taylor accoustic, Fender US Strat, Ernie Ball JP7, Fender 5150 3 head/cab and its all just perfect.

My other hobby is motorcycles, I had some newer stuff but went back to my first love and got another making this my #4 1981 GS1100 bike and I actually have two.
One is bone stock and needs love, the second is a monster that is getting some new wheels and a GSXR front end.

The hobby that keeps me honest is actually a degree I am working on, it takes most of my spare time.

My last hobby is running, I get up damn early in the morning to get my run in and not effect my day.

My wife says I have too many hobbies. I tell her they keep me out of trouble and help relieve stress.

My family---my wife and 1 ur old daughter are my top priority, after that it is knives, competitive men's slow pitch softball tournament team, BBQ/grilling, cast iron cookware, fly fishing and tying flies. I also love hiking and camping which ties well into knives, and my family enjoys it too.

I used to golf a bunch, collect baseball cards, and was into mountain/road biking---- I don't have time for that stuff any more. Still have the mountain bike but sold the road bike when my daughter was born. My baseball card collection is in the basement and I golf about 1-2 times a year now.

Ya I have this problem a lot. Paintball is expensive not to mention how much tournaments are. Some of the guns my team uses are over a grand. But I usually only trade knives so not to much money goes into knives.

I am terrible when it comes to hobbies, I like to try everything and im the type of person that when I try something I get pretty deep into it.

I thought I wanted to play guitar so I bought one- Sold it
I thought having a 4 wheeler would be fun- Sold it
I thought photography would be fun- Sold it
I thought id be into watches- Sold them
I got heavy into Oakley sunglasses- Sold most
I got into RC car racing, opened a race track, traveled quite a bit to race in different states, was sponsored- Sold everything

Im sure theres more im forgetting.

I got into snowboarding- Still have my gear and ride as much as possible
I got into mountain biking- Still have it and ride
I got into disc golf- I still play multiple times a week when its nice.

Now my new hobby is knives- but I look at it this way, I can pass knives down when I have kids, or if I do sell them most will sell for close to what I paid for it so that doesnt bother me.

I also seem to spend a lot of money on good cigars and craft beers.

I hear ya. I finally got out when the tourney scene was all I could think about. Started with the usual tipmans in the woods, moved on to high end stuff with full custom anodizing, hpa systems and electronic everything.

My gear ended up surpassing my skill (too tall and slow, even for back) so I sold it.

I do miss it though. Knives certainly don't get me to go to the gym with fervor!

When I have extra money to spend, it just goes to whatever hobby or impulsive buy crosses my mind at the moment. When I don't have extra, I have plenty of hobbies in which the dollar investments are already made. Computers, photography, guitar...

With knife collecting it tends to be seasonal. Buying knives, browsing BladeForums, and fondling knives is a nice pass-time for the winter months. In the summer I spend more time with the motorcycle, convertible, mountain bike, or just out hiking.
