I work in the city of Kingsville, Texas, home of the headquarters of the King Ranch, the largest ranch in Texas. You can buy traditional pocketknives in any farm & ranch store, hardware store, gun shop, etc., around here. Some stores only have a few patterns. They invariably have trappers, stockmans, and sodbusters, even if they carry nothing else. I have noticed more trappers being carried around here than any other pattern. Of course, that could be because they are more visible than the smaller knives, and are often toted in a belt sheath. But the trapper is certainly popular. I think I know why, at least in part, why it is so common around here:
Cowboys and Ranchers need neutering knives, naturally.
