How would you describe your knife collection?

Well, assuming that you "collect" knives....

For example, do you collect only one brand (ZT, Benchmade, CRK's etc.)? Maybe you collect variations of the same model (all the PM-2 runs, multiple XM-18's or Sebenza 21's, etc.)?

Or perhaps you collect a "type" or style of knife (flippers, assisted opening, thumb studs)?, or maybe you just collect in a price range?

Do you only collect 100% customs, just mid-techs, high end production? Do you go collect just "iconic" models of popular brands?

Maybe your collection is a blend to some extent of "all of the above", like me maybe you see knifes you own and use regularly as apart from what you collect?

As the OP, I will start with a description of what I find myself collecting...

I "collect" what I would call high/very-high end production and/or mid-techs. I have several CRK Sebenza's, several Shirogorov's, 2 Thorburns, 2 Rocksteads, 2 field grade Todd Begg's, a Curtiss F3, a Hinderer XM-18, a Strider SNG, an Olamic 247, a Jake Hoback Kwaiback, a Ferrum Forge MB, an Anthony Marfione Closer, etc.

The less expensive knives I simply "own" (vs collect) tend to be my real users... my PM2, Manix-2, ZT-450, Mcusta Katana, 940-2...

I don't collect, though I've bought CRKs, Shirogorovs, a Curtiss, and some similar knives. That rules me out for this thread, I suppose, but I did want to chime in on this:

a Joke Holdback Kwaiback

What did Jake ever do to you? That's a funny typo/autocorrect fail if it's not a jab at him. ;)

haha... I love Jake.... I dunno what happened! gonna have to fix that :)

Practical knives that carry easily and slice well. And they don't look like they were left behind by ancient alien race. Not a fan of weird grinds and unnecessary ornamentation.

I would describe my collection is ecliptic . I have meny different parts to my collection , milatry , traditional, gun manufacturer's ,and at least one from every country . Plus an offering form some of the big name such as ZT , spyderco . Benchmade . ESEE . . This as lead me to have a collection of 145 knives . And still no were near the end :)

I suppose, now that I think about it, that I collect Spydercos. I have more Spydercos than anything else. More Spydercos that don't get carried but just displayed. A bunch of Spyderco sprint runs of the same knife model.

I also have a bunch of other folding knives but in smaller numbers that are representative of different companies and technologies:

2 Benchmades.
3 ZTs.
A few of the higher-end Chinese brands.
A few random production knives that interested me (SOG, Ontario, Kershaw, Boker).
A few high-end production/mid-tech knives (CRK, Hinderer, Southard, Freeman).
1 custom (Gareth Bull).
Some that I've kept out of sentimentality (Buck, 2 REKATs).
A few fixed blades that I try to find excuses to beat up :)

A little of this, A little of that!! Been doing this knife thing for over 45yrs... John :D

Out of about 100 I have around 20 users, and the rest are flea market knives that I have for looks and I don't really consider them real knives.
I guess I'd describe my collection as a bunch of so called lookers and a handful of users that may or may not also be " lookers " 😉😉 ( most of my users aren't fancy looking though )

A work in progress that is over 40 years old. I buy what I like and use what I buy with no time for safe queens.

Most of my knives are made in the USA, so I think it is a way to define my collection

But things will change as I will reduce it as I want to focus on "users"

I am a tier collector. I chose a certain price point my budget was comfortable with. Then I pick and choose from that range. Mostly mid-range production in the $100.00 to $400.00 range. I like modern "tactical" folders in the 3" to 5"" blade length range. I also have a tidy little collection of smaller fixed blades and some "utility/outdoors" fixed blades. My collectuon is a 50/50 fondle collection. Half users and half fondling.

Think Sunday after church pot luck lunch. Someone will bring green beans still in the can, someone will bring chicken spaghetti, and someone will smoke a couple of briskets.
I would also add that I have a soft spot for Case Tiny Toothpicks.

IMO, a much funnier version of this question would be:

"How does your wife/girlfriend/SO/family describe your knife collection when you're not within earshot?"
