Hey guys,

You ever ponder over various catalogues looking at different brands of
knives kinda stuck on what to buy next?

I am looking around and thinking perhaps a Kershaw Blur.

How do you owners like them? Anything stand out good, bad? They
look like a great knife. I quite like the brown unit.

cheers,
Sean

The Blur is an amazing knife and tons of people here will stand by it. It is the fastest AO i've ever seen, I had it in my pocket and I was playing with some Benchmade Auto's at a Gun Show and I compared the deployment and my Kershaw beat them 4 out of 5 times. So yeah it's super fast and it is so scary sharp out of the box it's not even funny but then again most Kershaw knives are super sharp out of the box anyways. I've found the steel holds up really well. I have the Tanto one I got from WalMart and i'm thinking of getting the CPM-154 one with the Olive Drab handles next. Also if you don't or can't carry an assisted knife in your local area you can easily take the knife apart and remove the torison bar to make it a manual only knife. Also if you make it manual knife if you have it set for tip up carry it will wave out of your pocket cause of the awesome thumb stud it has. All in all I love this knife. Get one while you still can. And I think Knifecenter.com has the brown ones in stock.

Good luck

They're decent knives, not the most ergonomic though. They also have pretty thin blade tips.

You can't see it in the pics, but the blade has quite a few scuffs/scratches on it.

I had an S30V Blur that I really liked but I sold it for some reason and I have been wanting to get one again here recently. I did buy it used but it was well taken care of by a guy that I worked with who is a fellow knife guy like me but I sold it to someone who really wanted it and I had enough knives to carry at the time as I also do now. I have been thinking of getting an S60V Blur blem from Kershawguy or maybe another S30V but a blem from Kershawguy.

I am going to say that for edc I really have enjoyed the Blur(3 mos edc). Mine is in all black. The grip is fantastic, and the ease at which it opens? well, it is the Blur! It arrived very sharp from the factory. As with all knives of this sort, I place limitations on usage that may or may not be necessary, meaning that if it is a high stress task, I'll use a USA Schrade lb7 for example.
at 2:18 in this vid you can see how easy it deploys, which is great for my beat up old hands. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mBk6-bgkZrs

The blur is a good, solid knife IMO. Aptly named, as well...that thing opens quick! I don't think you'd be disappointed with it.

I love the knife, but I have to admit one of the real draws for me is the ability to collect the different colors and different steels. One could specialize in just Blurs for a collection, and have a very impressive collection. This includes the best super steels, and slightly different grip configuration.

All backed up by what is , IMO, the best W&R dept in the industry.

Blur steels so far:

440A
13C26
S30V
S60V
3G
14C28N
CPM 154 ( not 154cm, but the crucible powder steel version)

As I understand it there will be a CPM D2/ZDP189 version coming out in the future. In addition to the different steels, there have been different versions such as the Rescue, the OCC, etc. Different colors to signify different runs of the same steel ( S30V), etc.

Yep, one could do a whole lot worse than having a Blur collection. Personally, I was keeping up for a while, but got behind due to money reasons.

hey guys, thanks for all the information on your blurs. I really didn't expect to get such a thourough response.

sincerely,
sean

AKnife: Hey I like the anniversary blur! I have a chance to buy one from a local shop but I have no idea what it should be worth. I cant find any info on them. What do you think would be a reasonable price for one. And the steel is the normal 440a from that period or was it something else. Thanks Aknife I really appreciate it.

I own a S60v Blur that I absolutely love. I love the overall weight of the knife due to the aluminum handles, the trac tec inserts really make for a nice grip and it I for being a semi large knife I cannot even tell its in my pocket most of the time. I own a few knives that cost me a lot more than this knife but its still one of my top 3 favorite designs.

An older 440A Blur was the knife that started the modest collection I now own. Carried it for a while them lost it, have spent the last three years replacing it :) Recently purchased one of the S60V 2nds, it is a solid knife. AO is quick, lock up is solid. No complaints with the Blur, good knife.

I love my 13c26n blur! My girlfriend bought it for me. Probably one of the softer steels i own but it keeps an edge good and is super easy to sharpen. It's my go to Extremely sharp knife. Get one!

They come shaver-sharp in regular steels. My only upgrade is the S30V and, while fairly sharp, it didn't come new as a shaver, like my 440As did. They are easily touched up - especially with my Spyderco Sharpmaker. The older ones had a gritty skateboard tape insert that fuzzed my pants pockets - and took DNA samples when new. The S30V has what they now deliver - still grippy, but not a pocket fuzz producer - a definite improvement. My oldest, a red EDC for years (It still deploys in a 'Blur'!) was bought new six years ago last month, with my second, a black handle/coated one soon after, still having it's original razor sharpness. Both were made Aug 03 while my S30V stonewash is dated Oct 08. My deepest regret is missing out on the very limited supply of SG-2 bladed Blurs, especially if my JYDII Ti in SG-2 is indicative of it's sharpness. I am impressed with the AO spring's longevity - that red one is a worker!

Stainz

PS My older son didn't like the Blur I gave him years ago - said it opened in his pocket too often. He didn't like the Leek I later gave him because the lock could slip 'On' and prevent it's openning. Some folks are just picky.

I'm not sure how much they go for now. :o I believe it is made from 440 though.

That's an older knife with probably the 440A blade. The grind indicates so. The newer grinds don't have that thin of a tip IIRC.

I've got two of 'em. I've been known to carry them both at the same time, one in each pocket. Get one of the CPM154 blurs. There're rumors of a new style blur coming out in a few months, with another specially-colored handle.

k&g said it. Another CPM154 version is due very shortly (Anodized Orange)
along with a CB bladed version using 14C28N for the spine and ZDP-189 for the cutting edge.

I've shown these pics a few times, ;) but the Blurs are awesome. :)

The Blur is in my top 3 favorite designs of all time. I love the ergos, the blade shape, and the proportions. It is a very very under-appreciated design imo...it's a modern classic.
