This year has been pretty good. I started off the year with some talonite, buying the Camillus talonite EDC and Mini-Talon. Great knives with sensational designs. I especially like the talonite EDC. It gives my Sebenza a lot of weekend competition.
I then picked up a BM 710HS to carry while my Sebenza was away for cleaning. The A.G. Russell "seconds" Cattaraugus Rope Knife was a huge value for the money. I also ordered a Victorinox Tradesman from the Swiss, which has gotten a lot of carry time.
Once summer hit, outdoor fixed blades were the priority. I took the plunge and bought a Busse Satin Jack. I have mixed feelings about this knife, and may end up trading it. I also got myself a BlackJack Small and a Marbles Trailcraft. I love those convex grinds!!!
Summer's end spelled custom knives. I have a Jens Anso Hybrid on the way, and a convex ground Dozier K-1 on order, which should arrive late November.
As for next year, I'll probably be even pickier. There is a definite trend for me right now, preferring custom knives. Ive been collecting long enough, that I know what I want in a knife. Unfortunately, what I want will most likely need to be custom made. I may pick up a couple more fixed blades, and perhaps a custom slipjoint. Any production knives would have to be VERY good for to garner my interest. The upcoming Buck/Mayo collaboration may fall end up on my list. All in all, I expect far fewer purchases next year.
So
. Have my most often carried knives changed dramatically as a result of this years purchases? Im afraid not. I still carry my Sebenza and Victorinox Cybertool 34 every day, same as last fall. Theyre an awesome combination. When Im out in the woods, I still carry my Dozier K-4 or Marbles Fieldcraft. My old original Leatherman Pocket Survival Tool is with me when Im fishing. The SAK Tradesman is the only new knife that has gotten a whole lot of use. Maybe Im just getting set in my ways. Well see when my new customs arrive.
Last year was a whole mess of figuring out what styles suited me best. I tried a smattering of everything, got lucky a few times. This year was a more refined search for features I valued most. Hopefully, Ill land some exceptional keepers in the next year.
