Well, it's the last quarter, and with the holidays, many will have to put personal cutlery shopping sprees on hold. So, how's the haul been so far for '02? I've been very conservative, just an 806D2, BM 42s, and a Gunting to show for my efforts so far. I still want a Leatherman Wave, and some sort of Al Mar knife. Maybe that new CRKT D.O.G. as well. Trying very hard not to look at that Cutter Brend.

Within the last month, I have purchased a BM 806D2, Buck/Strider Solution, SOG Powerlock, HI BAS Khukuri, and SOG Seal Pup! :D

My list is a lot more than I expected actually but I got GREAT deals on ALL of them. And they were pretty much all NIB.

Here they are:
Chive
Dragonfly
Delica
Gunting
Military
G10 Police
La Griffe
Commander
CRKT M16 CF
CRKT S2
CRKT Pro C/K
Benchmade 722
USMC Ka-Bar
Swisstool
SOG crossgrip

I'm just getting into this knife stuff, but i intend to purchase a folder soon. I'm open to suggestions though

Placed an order for a Bob Dozier K-4 straight hunter but I won't get it until next year so this one don't count.

Oh, I picked up several new flashlights too.

In chronological order I got:

Microtech Socom Elite born 6/2000. Plain Edge satin 154CM blade.

Lile Combat. 7" blade D2 fighter with soldered stainless guard, black linen micarta bandle with a red spacer and a full tapered tang.

Benchmade 943

Benchmade 941BC1 (red handle) x2

Benchmade 941D2CF (941 w/ Carbon scales & D2 blade)

Elishewitz "off the table" custom: 3.5" ATS34 clip point hollow ground stonewashed blade set in blue anno'd Ti scales with Carbon Fiber inlays. The knife carries tip down with a stubbie clip and has a frame/liner lock (kind of a frame lock that is relieved to the thickness of a thick liner lock for the CF inlay. Smooth. slick and very secure lock up. The inner liners are jeweled.

Not sure that I'll get anymore knives this year, but I do have an anniversary and xmas coming up! I have a V'Nox Cybertool 29 on my Xmas list (wife can find those anywhere).

I never regret doing anything. . .simply, why give yourself headaches or stomach problems over something that you can't change ! Chalk it up to lessons learned. ;)

Besides, the next day is a new day. . .and new days are filled with new and exciting things to conquer ! :D

Slow, but good. I was on strike the first half of the year, and wasn't making nearly as much money as I'm used to. Blade Show was the only time I bought anything. Had only planned to pick up the TTKK I had ordered from Trace Rinaldi, but got a CF ALB prototype double grind from DDR (both S30V:)), and ordered a Busse GrooveMaster, which came a few weeks later.
No more knives planned for this year. Gone and discovered flashlights, though:eek:

Purchased:

Buck PCKS 110
Tomey Day Hiker
Buck Creek Whittler

Received (ordered last year)
Anso Personal Sheepfoot

Chris

CRKT Neck PECK
CRKT M16-03 Z
Gerber Guardian Back-Up
Cold Steel Bolo Machete
Swamp Rat Camp Tramp

I got a custom on order and I will order another one soon (design is made and conversation with the maker has already taken place).

This year has been pretty good. I started off the year with some talonite, buying the Camillus talonite EDC and Mini-Talon. Great knives with sensational designs. I especially like the talonite EDC. It gives my Sebenza a lot of weekend competition.

I then picked up a BM 710HS to carry while my Sebenza was away for cleaning. The A.G. Russell "seconds" Cattaraugus Rope Knife was a huge value for the money. I also ordered a Victorinox Tradesman from the Swiss, which has gotten a lot of carry time.

Once summer hit, outdoor fixed blades were the priority. I took the plunge and bought a Busse Satin Jack. I have mixed feelings about this knife, and may end up trading it. I also got myself a BlackJack Small and a Marbles Trailcraft. I love those convex grinds!!!

Summer's end spelled custom knives. I have a Jens Anso Hybrid on the way, and a convex ground Dozier K-1 on order, which should arrive late November.

As for next year, I'll probably be even pickier. There is a definite trend for me right now, preferring custom knives. I’ve been collecting long enough, that I know what I want in a knife. Unfortunately, what I want will most likely need to be custom made. I may pick up a couple more fixed blades, and perhaps a custom slipjoint. Any production knives would have to be VERY good for to garner my interest. The upcoming Buck/Mayo collaboration may fall end up on my list. All in all, I expect far fewer purchases next year.

So…. Have my “most often carried” knives changed dramatically as a result of this year’s purchases? I’m afraid not. I still carry my Sebenza and Victorinox Cybertool 34 every day, same as last fall. They’re an awesome combination. When I’m out in the woods, I still carry my Dozier K-4 or Marbles Fieldcraft. My old original Leatherman Pocket Survival Tool is with me when I’m fishing. The SAK Tradesman is the only new knife that has gotten a whole lot of use. Maybe I’m just getting set in my ways. We’ll see when my new customs arrive.

Last year was a whole mess of figuring out what styles suited me best. I tried a smattering of everything, got lucky a few times. This year was a more refined search for features I valued most. Hopefully, I’ll land some exceptional keepers in the next year.

My year (so far!):

Becker C/U 7
Spyderco Calypso Jr. SE (doesn't work well in serrated edge, bummer!)
Spyderco Almite Navigator
Small Sebenza regular
Benchmade 806D2

All great stuff! (Except the Calypso Jr. SE) Thanks, forumers, for helping me pick them with all your informative posts.
