HTM takes a hit

That was the first nutnfancy review I've ever watched, and wow, all the stuff people make fun of him for is true. Aside from the lock play issue -- which as he even admits just means that a lemon slipped through the cracks and is something that happens with any manufacturer occasionally -- his "negatives" are insubstantial, being based on his own strange obsessions with certain features (jimping good! aluminum bad! 4 oz. maximum for EDC!).

I find it especially strange that he knocks the grip of the aluminum handles, which as anyone who's carried or used one of the HTM Gunhammers at any length will tell you is just flat-out untrue: between the contours of the handle, the anodizing, and the machining, it's as secure in the hand as any knife I've ever handled. Seems like he just applies his recipe/checklist to the knife piecemeal instead of actually using the knife at length and understanding how everything works together, which is the real beauty of a good knife design (whether from HTM, Spyderco, Strider, or whoever else).

In conclusion: .

Never understood his popularity.

The problem is this: Nutnfancy was the first one there. It was a land-grab, and he was the first one to arrive on the scene doing internet reviews of man-gear. His only claim to legitimacy now is that he has a long history of posting, and because people keep referring to his videos. But I can't recall a single knife maker, production house or individual custom maker,
who really takes his videos seriously.

Meh. He makes me snooze. He talks about a whole lot of nothingness.

He's got celebrity syndrome. Professional reviewers (which he seems to think he is) have a methodical method for covering reviews so that they are uniform in presentation and easy to compare.

That being said, the best way to get rid of him is to discredit him when necessary and ignore him the rest of the time. Manyh of his reviews, including this one, give me the distinct impression that he's never really used any of the knives he reviews in anything more than a casual capacity.

Most of his reviews go so far off topic before even getting on topic that it's not even funny.

Unless you're active service and really counting ounces, you won't notice the HTM Gunny in your pocket. It is not heavy by any means. In fact, the people that I have shown my Gunhammer to have remarked about how light it is. This guy sounds like he carries a full load out every where he goes. If I'm not mistaken the dude's retired LEO. It's as though he's packing a firearm, a back up gun, a baton, a tac-light, a can of OC, a couple of spare magazines, a knife, and a pair of cuffs to make a citizen's arrest.

Dude rambles like no other.

There is no way that knife should have gone out the door, period.

It has more than one major flaw, that's unacceptable on five dollar gas station knife- how can you not see that it's unacceptable on a $200 mid-tech.

Definitely not acceptable. Still a crappy review though. And it's not as though this is the norm for HTM knives, because it's not.

It just so happens, as with most things on ze intarwebz, that bad reviews tend to get the most publicity. This whole community might have glowing reviews of many different brands of knives from factory to custom, but all it takes is one bad review for people to go hysterical (not saying you went hysterical now).

All the more reason to make sure all yer i's are dotted and your t's crossed.

While I can't tell ya how to run your business, IMHO a more appropriate response would look something like:

While we fundamentally disagree with some of Nutn's opinions, we value his feedback and are extremely embarrassed that a knife like this passed through our QC. We have done or are doing X, Y and Z in an effort to make sure that this never happens again. We value all HTM/DDR customers equally and want to assure you that we take any and all feedback to heart in the way we design, manufacture and service our products.

Haha. I don't even have the patience to watch the video. I am on tapatalk but could watch it. Please tell me its like 90mins long.

Did he covers its philosophy of use? My god. Let me guess, its philosophy of use is cutting things. This review comes from the same guy who recommended a junk SOG knife to a ton of people.

Took 8 minutes for him to get to the actual negative issue. A useful comparison would have been a video of the knife with the problem and then the replacement or the knife after getting it repaired. I don't get nutnfancy's obsession with everything needing to be "tactical". I don't think the guy uses them for anything other than cutting paper.

Well, honestly not what I wanted to see when I'm tossing in for the forum knife.... however I have learned that Nutn's opinions and mine don't meet up all the time. Reference the PF9 (HATED that gun, and the PPQ).... but still not what you want to see....

Oh buddy, you don't know the half of it. Hark isn't just inappropriate, he is downright dastardly at times. The other day, he was even devious if one could believe it.

It's not my business, and I'm not running anything. I don't work for the guy. I don't get paid for anything.

I'm not customer service either. I will tell it exactly how I see it. I'm not gonna write some canned response about how we're embarrassed. That is not why I'm here.

And really, no I don't value anything Nutnfancy has to say. I really do not. If he wants to talk about the issues of his knife online, that is his prerogative and he is certainly welcome to do so, and we actually do welcome it. I'd rather people see the real side of a company than them have a guise that there's never a problem or that nothing ever goes wrong. Every company has problems from time to time. What separates great companies from poor ones is how issues like this are handled. Darrel has nothing to hide. He stands by his products. All he has to do is send in the knife (we'll cover shipping both ways), and it'll get fixed no questions asked.

Do what I do? I am. I'm also very close to closing this thread if that guy sends another attack my way about how this forum operates, which would be a first for me. I have nothing to prove. People here that know me, know who I am and how I operate. Yes, I did take it personal.

huh?

Your use of the term "we'll" confuses me?

I apologize I thought you had at the very least a direct line of communication or even acted as an spokesman of sorts.

I'll ask again "when did repairing something that was manufactured poorly after the fact become a suitable substitution for just doing it right the first time"- Especially on a knife this expensive?

Ah the "royal we"...the collective "we".... In a lebowski mood i can dig it.

I'll play along:
"the fancy man that pissed on your knife is not the issue man..."
