So..., how are you going to ring in the one-hundred year anniversary of the 1911??? I plan to sip a chilled bottle of Black Ops (if it existed) from a brandy glass while admiring my Les Baer TRS. Anybody have a better idea????? I DOUBT IT!!!!!!!!!!:D

The 1911 is my favorite gun,
I had no idea they were 100 years old though.
That's cool.

Well, I guess I'll just shoot the piss out of my 1911 then.

I'll be buying a new Colt  or an old one if the deal is right :D

I've been thinking it's about time to get a new 1911. This year's as good as it gets because we're bound to see special editions at Shot Show. A new 1911 and a Busse folder. 2011 is gonna be a good year.

You have good taste in 1911s Wicked Sharp!

Wonder if Colt, Springfield, or Para-Ordnance will come out with a special edition model this year.

100 years? You would think they would have figured out how to make them run as reliably as a Glock by now.

Mine is only 68 years old :( But I guess I will celebrate by shooting it (an ithaca that my Grandfather carried in WW2) and its younger brother the Springfield TRP.

I guess I will be celebrating by buying me a 1911. My father has 2 that he used while in the military in the 30's and 40's. Nice Colts!!!!

Thanks, tiburon. You too. Just about to pop the cork!!! Might fire a magazine or two at midnight. Here in the country...., no one will notice.:)

My brown SF has run with the same reliability as a g21.

Given the substantial price difference, maybe not a fair comparison.

Are modern 1911, when sold at $500, as reliable as a Glock M21?

OTOH, what is the KaBoom rate of the two weapons? I do read snide comments about KBs on Glock, do 1911 have that problem at all?

Very true, glocks may offer the best bang for your buck, but a well tuned 1911 will run all day and shoot more accurately than a glock, as well as carry better. I carried a g21 for a couple of years, shot more than 10k rounds through it, but man you really do need to dress around the gun. I currently carry one of four guns, a SF, a colt gov, an XDM with tlr1 or a smaller kahr. Out of them, the 1911s carry the easiest besides the subcompact kahr.

As far as kabooms, .45 isn't a very high pressure round but it can happen. Glocks kaboom in .40 SW because it's a high pressure cartridge with an unsupported chamber.

Anybody have a better idea?

Sell this one and the grips and buy a new Smith&Wesson M&P in 45 ACP, 10 magazines and a bottle of Blue Label? :D:thumbup:

Seriously, I may wind up getting some updated sights put on this one but that is about it.

This is the Busse forum right . . . ? I didn't know we were a group that was concerned about bang for the buck. ;)

230, I'm with you man. The SF is the 1911 I will buy when I have the chance. As far as I'm concerned it's the Busse equivalent of 1911's. Yeah it costs more than most guns but you are getting one heck of a gun. Kind of like all the expensive Busse's I have. Sure, I could get by with my ESEE and do very well but, well you know where I'm headed with this.;):cool:
