Sorry folks. Not sure what I did that caused the first 2 photo to be giant.

This is a broad topic! I think I would go with the Vanguard AG from Cabelas!
OR possibly the mini alpha!!!

I like that AG Vanguard. I miss it. I'm waiting for my replacment to come in.

I know ive seen picks of the blades compared togather. But I'm looking for a fixed blade. It appears buck doesn't have much in stag. Thats okay though, an other recommendations??

Hi Ace,

Buck makes knives in stag for special orders. Go to the Bass Pro Shop and Cableas; they have several stag Bucks to look at and you can have Buck make you a custom order Alpha (none of these are cheap...you get what you pay for).

aceofblades... check out the 105 pathfinder, it is a nice size and will compliment the 110. I would not recommend stag for field use.

MWM?????

Why would you not recommend stag for field use????? I have carried and used stag handled knives both fixed and folders for field dressing deer for years. The ruff bark gives me a good grip when they are covered with goo much better the wood grips.

jb4570 I agree. I like stag also. Folks have used stag for along time. Unless your hunting where you might drop it on concrete (don't know where that would be) I dont see a problem either. I personally lihe my knives to be nice looking plus functional. I like that expensive good looking stag. Stag is my passion. More stag knives pleaseeeeeeeee. I want the Akouna next. And then maybe the little stag Ranger. I would love the vanguard AG in stag to go with my Stag AG 110's. Ok now I'm rambling. Sorry I'll shut up and fix my coffee.

Oh I guess its rose wood I thought it was cocobolo.
If ya look at KY's pic, the top 119BP and the 105BP (two top knives) are Rosewood.
The third is a 102BR.

Coco will be a "BR" designation with burgundy sheath. Rosewood "BP" come with black sheath.

I agree about the grip, no complaints there... in New England where I've done a lot of my hunting, in some areas there is a lot more granite than soft ground. I'm always nervous about dropping a stag handled knife and breaking it. Plus, in my mind, I'd rather carry something in the field that if lost can be easily replaced (and a lot cheaper). If you like stag for field use... go for it.

It's still a free country! ;)

Mainewoodsman, that makes sense. We dont have alot of granite here in Illinois. Goose my 105 came with tha black sheath also, it was from bp, but the handles are definately differant.

Hi MWM,

I can understand the fear of a knife getting lost in the feild. But, you should not fear it breaking from a drop...granite or no granite....Buck would replace the handle if it broke!!!!

That is a very good point, and one I had not considered!

I make a lot of knives with stag handles and ats34 steel and i haven't had a complaint yet............They have dressed a lot of deer......If the stag is comfortable in your hand, that all that matters..........carl.....ps i don't hammer stakes with it either.....

So go buy lots of stag. Actually I didnt think about them replacing broken stag either. Hummmm that stag Vanguard at BP is now calling.

Hi KY...
Here's a pic of mine.
119BP, 105BP, & 102BR
I will say that you probably like yours as much as I do mine

I think the 105 would be a good size for deer, turkey, pheasant. I love my 110 though! Looking around at all the custom knives lately got me to thinking of getting a custom buck. Stag is very nice, but I hear it is slippery when wet. I have not used stag handled knives personally though to speak on it.
