I hunt Florida Boar and have used a .357 magnum, 30-06 and a 257 Roberts. All worked well, the Roberts better at saving meat than the /06. There are a lot of good suggestions above. For the quick handling iron sighted backup gun, I would go for a 30-30 lever gun for meat hogs as it is a fun gun to have, very pointable and is good for many things. The 12 gauge is good with slugs or buckshot, but I think the 30 30 would be more fun. Next I plan on trying my Ruger Blackhawk in .44 mag........
