I just ordered a Taurus 44 Tracker 4" Stainless from Buds. Should be here in a few more days.

At only 38 oz. it should make a nice packable sidearm. I'll handload with 240 grainers at around 1100 fps.

Does anybody have one of these? I'm curious to see what others think of such a lightweight .44 magnum.

I don't see the need for a pistol if I am rifle hunting; a centerfire rifle outclasses any pistol. Even a .243 is light years ahead of a .44 magnum pistol. If I was squirrel hunting with a .22 in areas thick with hogs or two legged critters, I might carry something like a Glock in 10mm, which is pretty potent for its size. Some folks around here like a .22 pistol w/ shot loads while bowhunting the early season, due to the snake problem, but I never bother. I will carry a .22 while scouting, though.
