Husqvarna Multipurpose

Agreed, and I've learned the same lesson the hard way. I could have saved a couple bucks by buying this axe online, but it was worth it to me to order it through a local supplier, and be able to inspect it before putting cash on the barrelhead. And it helps support local small business...

Where I'm moving to in a few weeks, I'll have access to more Wetterlings Fine Forest Axes.
If I can find one that meets my expectations, I'll happily fork over the full asking price and
take the one I have now and practically give it away.

Coincidentally, I ordered the same exact Council (FSS) while waiting for my Wetterlings return.

My wetterlings broke on me and their service wasn't bad, only took them over two months to respond to me though, sold my replacement and don't plan to order another axe from them.

The FSS axe is hands down the best 3/4 axe I've used to date, love it

I've heard nothing but good things about that axe. Did you do a review of the two a while back?

FYI, here's my take on it...

The Council came in. Had a nick in the edge, but that was really about it.
Overall, in decent shape (especially for $29.). I worked the nick out of it
already and it's fine now. I think it was a good deal. And I got one of those
nice two-tone handles. I don't know if that makes it a weaker handle or not,
but it's going to look nice once I stain it (maybe with a dark walnut stain).

[Disclaimer; I know not much about axes for the wilderness, just for work.
My opinions and impressions are biased towards the utilitarian aspects of axe use.]

I think I'm in the same boat as you now. "IF" I could find a great example of the FFA, I'd take it.
Again, for me, it's a brilliant design for what I want. But then again, I would mostly use it for doing
finer work and carving as opposed to serious work. For that? Hellz yeah the Council FSS is the ticket.

I haven't used my FSS yet, but plan to in a couple of weeks. As for the Wetterlings, despite its' faults,
my gosh that thing is a dream to work with for the smaller work. It felt great for me and I loved how
easy it was to get an edge back on it despite the damage I did to it initially (their factory edges aren't
geared for hardwoods).

Geez, I can't believe they sent it to you new with a chip in it like that. Atleast you knew how to fix her. Good job

The other part for me was that I was so tired of getting no response from Wetterlings I emailed the retailer I bought the axe from and they took care of me great and replaced it for me. I don't even want to know how long the replacement from Wetterlings would have taken. I heard once the replacement is ordered from the distributor it still takes quite a while to receive it. That's just too much money to spend on axe for that kind of service IMO.

Right. I saw that. I have no idea what the laws are there about country of origin, but i guess if somebody is importing them it had better be correct. It just seems strange that the web site seems to dodge the issue. Something about being forged with traditional swedish methods and swedish steel. Maybe im over analyzing or still puzzled by the price.

Council tool has had their problems. Its pretty well documented on the net if you look for it. They are kind of the sacred cow around here so.........flame away.

Good questions that I don't have a 100% conclusive answer for, other than what it says on the axe (which I would hope to be honest and true). Anyone else know?

The Husky Forest Axe is a re-branded Swedish Hults Bruks axe- http://hultafors.com/en/products/about-our-products/axes-forged-with-tradition/

Hults Bruks are Mors Kochanski's favorite axes, if that helps :)

What can you say about the steel and production? Are there any differences?

its same steel same heat treated same handle (hickory) same forging
cegga

Any specifics on the steel? And I was under the impression that Wetterlings used induction when heat treating and Gränsfors didnt.
