Recommendation? Hybrid Quenching... Water, then Oil?

Do you mean for heating parks 50?

I heat canola every time I use it. Cold canola won't harden steel very well at all.
I haven't tried any of it yet but in my reading
I know most people heat their oil up but i didnt think many heated it past 120ish?

I remeber reading somthing by jesus hernandez about getting activity out of a steel that was usually known for its lack luster hamons, sorry i dont recall the steel.

But i think if i recall correctly he was messing around with heating his parks 50 past 120 if i remember right it was close to 190?

Edit to add basically i wonderd if the oil was heated high enough to make the viscosity thinner like water. But i dont know if it will do anything :)

While we knife makers certainly aren't bound by manufacturer's specs, P50 oil comes with a data sheet that says to use it between 70f-120f, IIRC, and was developed to simulate the speed of water without the risks. I think heating it up past recommended temps may not be so good for the oil, longevity being a concern. Canola works best around 130f (fastest at that temp). When I use canola I warm it to 130f. When I use P50, I warm it to around 90-100f.
