I’m looking for suggestions for my next EDC folding knife, under $200......

Besides the Spyderco PM2 in 52100, I own, or have owned a variety of Zero Tolerance, a very nice Buck Vantage Pro in S30V, as well as a GEC Model 53. Oh, there’s also a Boker Urban Trapper in there somewhere.

I also own several models of the always classy Victorinox Alox knives.

I like some of the suggestions you guys are throwing in from left field. Those Cold SteelAD10’s and AD15’s really piqued my interest, as well as that Protech Strider that was mentioned.

While I doubt I’ll ever part with my Spyderco, to me, variety is the spice of life, so my next likely won’t be a Spyderco, for no other reason than that I want to sample something else from the menu.
Good to know. I love zts for that price range. But since you already have some, I like your Malibu idea. I've been looking at those for a bit and they look easy to carry and very fidgety.

I recently got one I’ve been eyeing for a while, a Protech SNG. If an auto fits the bill, I couldn’t recommend it enough. I can see why Protech gets a lot of love. The fit and finish is immaculate, no issues there whatsoever, and it fires hard. Similar size to a PM2, but because of the whole choil on a choil on a choil, you lose some edge. Protech won itself a return customer, that’s for sure.

Where did you get this? How much as I really like it!

I have been considering the same. I currently edc a Maxemet Para 3 and don't know how much I'll like the Manix 2. Any input?

Sorry to thread jack.

I have not tried the Para 3. The Shaman has been my recent edc favorite, but just the last few days of carrying the Manix 2 has me wondering. It is the best-value from a Spyderco purchase for me so far. It's good to go right out of the box at <$150. I even like the stock clip on this one. The aluminum cage was the only mod I made.

I snagged this one off the exchange, but they were out there for around $200. If you stalk the auto exchange here you’ll find some that pass through. Some websites still show them in stock, but a lot have moved on to a newer model which runs closer to $450. I don’t know if I’d pay that much, but for around $200 I’m very happy with mine, it’s in my pocket right now haha.

Thanks I searched all over and I think I found one...it said it was in stock and I bought so let's see what happens LOL. GREAT looking knife

Three Rivers Manufacturing Neutron. It's a shade under $200. One of the best knife you can buy. Thin, light, and an excellent slicer. The detent is amazing.

I think you’ll love it, man. It fits my hand really well, the action is 100% the best I’ve had of any autos, though I’ll admit I haven’t had a lot, but it’s fantastic. After I put my own edge on, it’s perfect. I’ll be using mine for a long, long time.

This is my go to basic guide for different price brackets
60 bucks or so = Delica 4
80 bucks=Buck 112 Slim Pro Micarta
Around 100=BM bugout/griptilian
Under 150= Paramilitary 2
Just over 150=BM 940
Over 200 = Spyderco Swayback
Just over 300 = CRK Small Sebenza
When someone says they want a "good" knife I usually say Delica. And when someone says they want an upgrade or better knife I usually point them to the BM940.

Edit: that's not to say there aren't a lot of great knives at all of these price points, these are just some common ones

Gayle Bradley 2 fits in your price range. Currently my EDC, deep hollow grind, CPM-M4 tool steel takes and edge like 52100 and holds it longer, liner lock, carbon fiber grips. Did a review a couple of months back.
I keep struggling for the knife that will be in my pocket all the time. The GB keeps getting mentioned and I keep not trying it. Need to fix that. I like the Sage 1 and Sage 5, but need something more durable that S30. I also prefer hollow grinds. This GB could be it.

But all measures this is a good list. Delica is closer to $90 now, I believe.

I love Spydero and many of their knives (too many), but for some reason the most popular ones are not my favorites. Delica and PM2 just don't work for me. Haven't tried the Swayback. Sebenza... $325 for a Ti liner lock in S35? It's nice enough, it's just not for me

Could be I have terrible taste and judgement. I'm possibly the only person in the knife world who prefers the Sage to the PM2 and the Delica. I can hope for a Sage in 4V or Cru-wear.

I would say a ferrum forge stinger or a trm atom might be worth taking a look at.
I just started carrying a waypoint from quiet carry, and I love it. It's well above the 200 mark, but you might wanna check out their iq as well. MBK has some great blades as well.

Maybe try something different from Viper knives of Italy. They are making high quality knives for under $200, like the Voxnaes designed Fortis. Flipper or Spydie Hole opening; pivot bearings; titanium frame lock; carbon fiber scales; blued clip. 3.5” M390 blade. Also available in G-10 scales and all Titanium

......if possible.

I considered posing this question on other forums, but the think tank here is really the only place to be for this particular subject.

I think I’m on the mood for another knife that would be suitable for every day carry, and I’d like some sub $200 suggestions.

I currently carry a Spyderco PM2, with a carbon fiber grip and a 52100 blade. It’s proven entirely suitable, and I like it very much. I’ll continue to carry this one as well.

I’m not too particular on blade steel, but I do sharpen old school, freehand on an oilstone. I just grew tired of all the jigs and setup. I don’t care for thumb studs, but I’ll work with it if I have to. I like frame and liner locks the best.

One that caught my eye was the Protech Malibu, but I’m open to suggestions.

What do you think?

Benchmade mini Crooked River is a classy looking EDC

The Southern Grind Spider Monkey can be had on the Exchange in your price range.

The carbon fiber is really sweet, and the S35VN is done right. The titanium frame/liner lock is solid.

It carries very easy. I believe it's worth putting up with the thumb stud. ;)

That and it's one of the best thumbstud designs I've used.

I love both my Manix 2 and Yojimbo 2. Though mine are customized.

If the CS AD 10 looks interesting, look at the CS Ultimate Hunter. Lighter for edc, and strong for a working knife.
I just got the Manix 2 with m390 steel. Excellent value edc. And I also am a PM2 fan. I believe the Manix 2 is a limited run.

MKM Root - absolutely not what you're looking for, being a medium-small slipjoint, but mine has been in my pocket ever since I got it. I sold my Spyderco Kapara without any remorse, but the Titanium MKM Root is staying.

And to add to Ron's suggestion of the Viper Fortis, how about the Viper Katla? It has an unusually attractive and interesting tanto-style blade. I have to marbled Carbon Fiber version and it's a stunner.
