I don't know squat about commercial fishing, but it sounds like it's going downhill. He has a Master's in Business and she is an RN so I'm sure they can find something. At least I would hope so. I keep trying to talk the wife into going up for a vacation, but she won't do it. Is it a nice place to live? I would want to live in a semi unpopulated area. Just anti-social I guess. I hear that the folks up there are different than the folks in the lower 48. That has always intrigued me. I dislike phony people. I like to be around regular ol' people

Well, as long as you avoid Los Anchorage, you shouldn't have any problem finding unpopulated. And "anti-social" is pretty standard up here. The people who live here do so for a reason.:D Yeah, I like Alaska but it's not for everybody. It's one of those places that you either love it or hate it.

Sounds nice.

My friend runs a Mil Surp shooting club so I get to play with all the toys. I'm not a member cause I have way too many expensive hobbies as it is.

Still here, but maybe not much longer.

The thing that irritates me about knife carry laws is that everything seems really vague. Not only that, but most places I know about have concealed restrictions, but you can carry pretty much what you want openly. From a legal perspective, anyway. Just try toting a fixed blade on your belt and see how fast peoples' eyebrows go up and the police get called.

Finally whine - if it's a kitchen knife, it seems like just about anything goes, no length restriction, nothing. But I'll bet large amounts of money that more crimes were committed with cheap kitchen knives than with all knives over $50 in the past year.

End rant.

I'm also REAL fond of the Arisakas, although they cost an arm and a leg to shoot with Norma ammo. The one with the highest 'cool' factor is my model 2 paratroop rifle with all the markings intact...:D

I agree with the laws not being specific. I have looked through the local laws and asked local officers and nobody seems to be able to give any kind of definative answer. Nobody looks twice at my Delica so I keep carrying it. The officers I have spoken with seemed to think that it was alright. I had entertained the thought if getting an Active Duty but it seems that fixed blades are another topic when it comes to the police around here. They consider that a concealed weapon since most people don't carry a fixed blade as their EDC. I am still going to get an Assault Shaker though.

Yeah, knife laws up here are a little strange too. You can carry openly but even with a CCP, knives aren't covered. I can carry a pistol concealed but not a knife. How's that for stupid.

Oh, yeah, and if you violate the confusing knife laws, you usually get slapped with a felony. No knives, no guns, no vote, and it really trims down employment options.

Taking the law's side - it's extremely unlikely that a police officer is going to nail you for *just* a concealed weapons charge, without other aggravating factors. But it's still pretty frightening what could happen if you're in the wrong place at the wrong time with a knife in your pocket. I'm not sure if that's more or less frightening than being in the wrong place at the wrong time without a knife in your pocket.

Hah! Gotcha there, Spearhead! Indiana lets us carry up to 4.5" concealed, if memory serves correctly, in folders and up to 8" in fixed blades... 'Course places like Gary and Indy may have LOCAL laws against it...

True so true. The problem is the little towns around here. They will pull you over at the drop of a hat. Apparently since they are such small towns they have to make quota to get enough revenue to cover their paychecks. Any time you have to do a sobriety test they always ask you if you have any knives or guns. Being in a band I find myself driving through small towns after bar time and I've been pulled over for no reason.

hope you fellas don't mind if I jump in here. I have to agree with the knife laws thing. Im a LE and from what I understand the only kind of knives that aren't allowed are double edge or "auto" opening and butterfly knives.

Im looking forward to buying my first Busse when the new designs come out:cool:
