Glad to hear you made it out unharmed Sam. I have to say, I've had the same thought before...I'd likely have done some math before firing it up, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't have broken something...
Now its not that it was a bad idea, its was just a poorly planned one. When you have an idea, stop! Take three days to crunch the numbers multiple times and then start working on it. It saves a lot of head ache and is cases like this, your life.

the big JP. wet grinding wheels are in sizes over 40 inch in some cases and for a 36-40 inch er its something liek 5-6k$ to have one paid for and shipped here
also they spin at the crazy fast speed of 400-500 RPM
till you math the SFPM thats still grinding a pile of steel
