I also make blades sometimes…

Kevin,She is way to incredible for mear words to describe:thumbup: :D I can only hope to be at your level one of these days...

Quick question....Did you use a press or power hammer when forging this beauty,or did you do it by hand?

Bruce

Spring dies in a power hammer. I really think that the main difference in a persons level is how much time they have on their hands to spend picking at a blade. Perhaps if I had a life to speak of, outside of the shop, the blade would look different;)

I see the "crowning achievements" thread has resurrected, I would say this one could be merged there but it would probably be the equivalent of a hijacking with the size of this one now, so it may be best to just keep chatting.

That swords about as nice as they come.

Thanks Kevin,I really need to learn how to use my power hammer to it's full potential and quit just using it to flatten round bars down.until the doc gets me all straightened out I will just keep on having allot of time to keep screwing up :D Seems like the longer a knife takes me to complete the more mistakes I keep making....I can only hope someday I will have the knowledge and skills to make a Beautiful blade like you have...

Bruce

Kevin, what steels did you use for the various parts?

It was too easy to push O1/L6 to its limits in forging this monster, the dies needed to touch on the edge side on the final blows in order to get the proper bevels and still maintain the pattern. I got carried away and cracked the first blade and then decided to alter my recipe a bit on the second blade and changed my ratios and added some of my old friend O2 to mellow things out. The fittings are 1018 and L6 in a carbon depleting ratio good enough to take all of the teeth out the L6 and make it machine very nicely.

Very nice, heck there ain't a general or monarch that wouldn't give his eye teeth for that!:thumbup:

I am always surprised at the number of folks that still want to see some of my images months after the thread has passed, so I have a nasty tendency to clean house at my page without thinking of where those links may go, as was the case here. The original phots are gone but I have added this one to give an idea of what was here:

On the bright side this is the proffessional photo I had done.

P.S. thank you very much for the interest. The fact that I have to keep stuff around so long on my site is a very good thing:).

:eek::eek::eek:
I understand why you say it was "demanding"...
In ancient times such a blade would be a prince's heritage!
