I recall some or most of the folks from days gone by...
To pick on a few...
L6Steel...one of his first post was if he could use a radial arm saw for a surface grinder. I recall Tom Mayo chiming in that it wasn't such a great idea.
Tim Herman and his "knifeshop by the lake" thread. Funny stuff, at the expense of Chiro75. Tim later got banned for doing this or that. I really enjoyed his post, incorrigible as they were.
Bruce Evans was here quite a bit and had great tutorials. My buddy Terry Primos came and went. Terry's tutorial using JB Weld as a sealant between the guard and tang was top-notch.
Darrel Ralph and Kit Carson were the mods back then. Mark Williams came along quite a bit later. It was from Darrel's prompting that the supplier's list was started. It isn't as fluid as it once was. I didn't truly realize the monumental task that was at hand when it was first taken on.
I remember when Ed Caffery received his journeyman's stamp and later his Mastersmith's. In my opinion, Ed is one of the foremost bladesmiths in the country, if not the world.
I went to the intro course in Old Washington with Mace and Sabre (Dan) in September 2001, right after 9/11. Mace has come a long way. (You make a fine blade, pal.) I, on the other hand, have been sidetracked to some degree. I am still making knives, just not as often. Sometimes life gets in the way of our desires. I'll get back and be more indulgent with my first love, in time.
Stalwart members at the time were Ed Caffery, Jerry Hossom, Mike Hull, Tom Mayo, Bruce Bump, Bruce Evans, Rob Simonich, Mad Poet, Nick Wheeler, Dan Gray, Tracy, L6Steel and who can forget Nathan House, or The Zodiac, or Da'quota for entertainment? I know I have left others out and please forgive me. My memory is not as young as it once was. Rob Frink frequented here often as well. I finally met Rob in Old Washington a few years ago. What a great guy!
Yes, when I first got here, I was looking for the best steel too!
I have made numerous friends through this website and forum. It tends to attract a number of good folks.
