Sure some knives are designed to be weapons but most are tools , take the swissarmy knife , the hole thing screams TOOL .I quess if you had a SwissChamp you could throw it at someone (that would hurt ).Ch-wang has got the total wrong idea , im a Firstaider and a member of a lifeboat crew what the f*&k do i want with weapons oh yes im not American either ( cant see what difference that makes anyway )yet i love knives .The last thing on my mind is using one as a weapon:(

Bombs? Where did bombs come from? What does that have to do with a discussion about guns and knives? This is screaming to be moved to Whine and Cheese.
 
Knives can be used as weapons. They can also be used as tools. They are both- it depends on intent.

The written word can be used as a weapon. That doesn't mean poetry forums are about violence.

I'm kinda curious as to why Ch-wang has been watching this thread for the last half hour strait if he was not looking to start a flame war by contradicting a position that may forumites use to operate and carry their knives legally. therfore making them more constructive posters.
 
This is the way I see it:

A knife is a tool because it has utility value.

A firearm is a weapon because it is not designed for utility.
 
This is a dumb thread.
Number of times knives have been used as weapons: 0.1% or less.
Number of times knives have been used as tools: 99.9% or higher.

If you want to get historical, where have knives seen more use, killing? or boning, skinning, cooking, medical practices, making other tool, making weapons etc. It's not like knives can't be used as weapons, personally I believe they are both but the scale in my opinion is tipped more towards the tool side.

bring down animals?
kill and rip and give advantage o chop and slice?

Sugar was rare before, now all Americans drink serab for breakfast

I nbormally don't respond like this, but you ARE an idiot. "You shoot because you are nervous." Only a moron believes something like that. Obviously you know NOTHING, and I mean NOTHING about guns and the resposibility of carrying one. You really ticked me off! I smell a TROLL! Ewwwwww.

Actually, the first use would have been to chop and slice. Weapons like spears and arrows were used to bring down the animals without getting to close. You had to be dumb to use a knife when hunting dear or bear, or birds ... and that reduced your survival chanches by an order of magnitude compared to those that used weapons. Take a minute and think about it.

Guys, the knife is a weapon Psychologically and physically.

Its a claw we made and our ancestors fought with it because it is a weapon and it works and it kills, they made it out of bone first.

I dont know bout the rest of you guys but he has only responded to a select few posts, it does make me curious that he has not started a flame war. Maybe he's a youngster or maybe he's special?
