I Am Goin' Off To War...

I was a lot like Peter at 15. I liked carrying a cool knife while out playing soldier in the woods. I probably was not as responsible or as level headed as he seems to be though. If you are on private property by permission of the land owner with friends of the same maturity level or higher ie they won't play the a$$ with your blade and hurt themselves or others with it, then I don't see the harm. I do agree with HamGuy in the title of the thread being in poor taste.

Fellas, let us look at ourselves as uncles to this youngin' and guide him when he needs it. My advice Peter is try to temper your exhuberant posts with an extra degree of care. Think it through before you submit it. :D

Sorry about the title, it does not depict the nature of my post. I will change it to something more appropriate. I have never, and will never, give/lend a knife to an individual I deam unfit to use it. I will be more carelul with my threads in the future. Thank you for the advice.

When I was Peters age I thought I was cool because I had a Buck 119 Special. (Of course when I was a kid dinosaurs still roamed the Earth) What I would have given to own a knife like a Busse then! Peter - enjoy being young and having fun, and listen to the advice these guys give, they usually know what they are talking about. ;)

Yes, everyone here is always giving great advice, I appreciate it. When did everyone here first start collecting knives? And when did you find out about Jerry Busse or Busse Combat? I have been seriously collecting quality knives for the past two years and just discovered Busse Combat about six months ago. It is really great to be part of a community that is so welcoming and has so much to offer.

Hi Peter,

I agree with you on the jungle camo--it sounds like the perfect finish. I would go with a smaller blade like the LerMS or similar, however. Unless you come up with a very fancy carry method, you're not gonna want to be squirming around through the woods and underbrush with a huge knife. Plus, I would think that for the most part you wouldn't need to be cutting any large-diameter wood?

And yes, I think it would be good of you to change the title...though clearly you didn't mean anything by it. I'm with Mike here--airsoft sounds like a better excuse to buy a Busse than most of us have!!

P.S. Are you gonna make it to Blade, Peter?

How do you change the title?

Going to Blade? I am not sure, I would have to work it out. I want to though. :D

Good point about the blade size, I will find something that works out.

I been collecting knives since I was about 13 or so. I was working making money of my own at 11, so I had some expendable income burning holes in my pockets. As for Busse, I had heard of them when I was in high school and I wish I had bought a ton of them when I first heard of them. If I had as many Busse knives with that money back then they would be worth about 6 times their original amount now. Oh well. I got into collecting Busse knives in March of 02 and, much to my wife's dismay, I have not slowed down much. :D Heck, I sold off all of those other knives when I started collecting Busse.

How did you here about Mr. Busse's knives while you were in high school? It seems we share something in comon. I was about 13 when I started knife collecting and I heard about Busse while I was in high school. :)

BTW, How do you change the title of a thread?

Can't change after the first 60 seconds of a post.

I first saw Busse at local gun and gun industry shows. I thought they had to be high to ask their prices. Oh the folly of youth... That was in the early 90's.

Coulda had swords, BBSH's, and who knows what else for a lot less than current market....

If I can't change the title, the best I can do is apologise and promise I will word my titles better in the future.

How much were the AKs and BBSH1&2s back in the 1990s?

As a side note, when did Mr. Busse form Busse Combat?

i first heard of busse through the second issue of tactical knives magazine.

it had a great article on the steel heart. i wasn't wealthy enough to buy a busse then but when i got the $$$ i ordered a shba  however when my knife showed it was a ba-e.

even though it wasn't technically what i ordered i still appreciate it, after all it is my first busse. the shba seems to be at the top of everyones fav. list so maybe i should hunt me one down some day

When I was Peters age I wasn't so much into knives as guns. Had (still have) a Ruger MKI that I got for Christmas when I was about 13 or so. By 15 I had my own 1911 that I bought from the DCM for like $65. You could do that back then. Also the target rifles. I was in serious smallbore competition back then. The Boy Scouts got me into the organized shooting.

The funny thing is, even though at that age I had 2 pistols, 2 shotguns and 3 or 4 rifles, the guy that impressed me at school was a greaser with a cheap Italian switchblade. Never occured to me that I could have blown him out of his boots, that switchblade was COOL and he was the baddest thing that walked. LOL

Peter, since you have it and it IS a Military over run, what's wrong with your EU-17? Seems like you have the perfect knife and still want to look elsewhere. You could camo it yourself, but I don't see the point unless it's a satin blade.

Rob, reading your post affirms what I have been told countless times before. It really was a very different world "back in the day". I too like firearms but am more of a knife freak. How did you buy a Colt 1911 when you were 15?

witchhunter, how can I subscribe to tactical knives magazine? It sounds like a very informative and interesting publication.

I'm seventeen, but I only have two guns, a Marlin 336 in 30-30 and a Valtro PM-5 magazine fed pump action shotgun with a 14" barrel. When I turn 18 I will be able to get handguns and ARs too. :D

Peter, have you heard of CGN??

www.canadiangunnutz.com

I'm a member over there, and they have a small knife section too. But be warned, the guys over there might not be as friendly as these HOGs. :D

Like I said, from the DCM (Dept of Civilian Marksmanship). If you were a member of an affiliated club or team and shot in x number of matches a year you could purchase surplus firearms from the Govt. No age restrictions back then.

I was wrong, the 1911A1 (Remington-Rand) was $25 and the M1 Carbine I got a year or so later was $65. The 1911 was very worn, but the M1 was still in the grease.

Rob

Sorry. I was uncure what DCM standed for. It seems I'm the only one missing out on the firearms. :(
