I am going to Alaska!!!

I think there is a good chance that TKC will be doing an address change that will include AK in the very near future.

Good luck and have fun! I'd want a bear rifle (.45-70 or .30-06), but be careful what you bring through Canada.

I'd love to stick that to the front of my truck.

That would be cool.

I knew a guy that left here in a Mustang to work on an Oil Rig in Northern Canada and came back with an old 50's Mercedes Benz with a (smaller) Moose Rack mounted to the front of the car.

T.K.C., you are going to what has to be one of the best areas in Alaska! The weather is moderate, scenery is gorgeous, and the people are great! I lived in Anchorage for over 6 years and spent a lot of time in the valley. Congrats, have a great time!!!

My only experience with Alaska came from watching episodes of Northern Exposure.

Best of luck and enjoy!!

My wife and I were fortunate to do a tourist trip to AK several years ago.
What a fantastically beautiful state!!!
Hope your opportunity is everything good you could hope for!

Alaska... yeah, nice. Best to read "Coming Into The Country" by John McPhee, now, or while you're up there. Good book about people's experiences moving to Alaska from the lower 48. I enjoyed it.

Gotta ask, what's a Traveling Surgical Technologist do?

My adventure with my dog to Alaska has taken a turn for worse. Kirby and I had a car accident on Thurs. We are both fine thank God! We BOTH were wearing seat belts. The truck will take a week to repair. Yesterday I found out that my dog NEEDS surgery, as he has a tumor on his right front paw. He is going in for surgery tomorrow am. Please keep us in your prayers. We should be back on the road on Friday. We are staying at my Dad's house in CT. THANK GOD that all this happened near my Dad's house.

Take it easy, dear! Don't rush ... there's really no need.

You'll get to Alaska soon enough. It will still be there. And it will still be very, very snowy. :D

Smoke and prayers from Virginia for TKC and her pooch.

I assure you I was NOT is any rush!! In fact, I had beeen doing 40 MPH all the way from MA. to CT. due to the weather!! The only time constarint is the date I was to start work. That date if ciourse HAS changed. I was realxed and in no hurray in the first place!! There was a HUGE pile of snow in the middle of the lane (it looks like it was from the plow.)I was driving in, and 4 cars got caught in it, and when I saw the cars up a head, I tried to slowly and ever so gently change lanes, but to no avail. I slid sideways into a rental mini van, then slip over the right side of the road. The cops would NOT come, as no one was hurt. They had a very busy night. We exchanged info, then I was able to drive to my Dad's house. I can not open the drivers side door. The entire left side of my truck is AFU; the drivers side tail light was hanging out, but working. It is at the Toyota dealers body shop as we speak.

Tomorrow am, Kirby has his tumor removed. Prayers for my pup that this IS a benign tumor, PLEASE!! My dog is my heart and soul.[

Oh, I figured it was just a weather-related matter ... no expectation that you were hurrying or anything.

Just glad to hear you're fine.

I'll put a few more prayers up for Kirby. I think he's going to be fine -- and you'll definitely need his company on this adventure.

Be well. :thumbup::)

I feel relived!! The Vet. said that it was an unusual tunor, and had not seen many like his. He said I did not need to worry, but to keep an eye on recurrence.

For the medically inclined among uFor the medically inclined among us, it is a Plasmacytoma.
Biopsy:
Microscopic Findings: "A section of cutaneaous mass was examined histologically. The dermis contained and expansive, highly cellular, nonencapsulated mass. The overlying epidermis was elevated. The tumor consisted of variable sized (neoplastic.) discrete "round cells" many of which resembled plasma cells. These cells had moderate to abundant amounts of amphophilic cytoplasm and round to indented hyperchromatic nuclei. Some cells were bi or tri nucleate and large mononuclear giant cells were observed. Several cells were in mitosis. Creating small nests and poackets of neoplastic cells were thin vvascular septa. Some of the septa were distended by hemorrhage. The neoplasm was localized to the dermis. Tissue margins were sparse but free of neoplastic cells.
Here is the comment from the test result:
Comment: "The diagnosis of plasmacytoma was based on cellular histomorphology on an H & E stained section. The prognosis is cautiously favorable to good. Solitary cutaneaou plasmacytomas are generally benign despite exhibiting cytologic characteristics of malignancy. The vast majority are cured by complete excision. Rarely, they recur or exhibit local invasion and even more rarely their occurrence portends the development of systemic plasma cell dyscrasia or other lymphoproliferative disease."

Hey T.K.C., thanks for the details. I hope you can get back on the road to Alaska soon. I guess it is getting to be difficult driving season.
