I am going to say this even though it might cause a fire storm

I really do not like Spyderco knives. I don't like the way they feel in my hand. (although I have been told my hands are more like bear paws). The design is unattractive and in wielding them I believe they are highly overrated. Maybe that is.why I see so many for sale on this site. I cannot,be,the only one with this opinion. Thoughts or counterpoints?

That's how I feel about Striders, like holding a cement block; but hey just cause it's not for you, doesn't mean it isn't for anyone.

Personally I love Spyderco knives specifically for their ergos. Before I held one I thought they looked weird and ugly.

To each their own. You may have every reason in the world to not like Spyderco's. However, as mentioned, I'm not sure of why you felt it was necessary to start two threads on the same topic; In the same forum, no less. I hope you're not trolling. ;)

My Spyderco Para2 cuts better(at corn anyway) than my R.J. Martin Overkill. Though part of that could be because the Para2 has a thinner edge and lower bevel. In any case, having used it once, I can tell without doubt that it is a knife meant to cut and to cut ONLY. It is NOT a makeshift folding prybar like some other "hard use" knives.

I also don't know of any other production companies ever using such exotic steels like S90V and CTS-20CP, except maybe for that one Kershaw Shallot in S110V some few years ago. And for a knife company that's supposedly so disliked and unattractive, it's curious how some of the sprint runs are selling for a rather large markup from the original price.

I should clarify...the folders/assisted just seem like a simple knife. I don't understand the price and love affair. Because of this love affair by others, I am trying to keep an open mind and hope someone can explain to me the passionate following. Also keep in mind I am not a knife snob or genius. Just trying to learn. :)

Maybe the ergos are the problem for me. I grew up with your standard folding knives. Nice straight handle. I have not used one of the Bill Moran designed knives. I would really love to see one of them come up on the knife swap forum.

Everyone has their own preferences when it comes to folders. Blade shape, handle materials, size, & intended use play big roles in what "works" for you. I hear that a lot of people don't like Spyd'ie holes but I honestly love them and prefer them to thumb studs. They use top quality steels and I found that the fit and finish on any of the spydercos that I have purchased have been excellent. I'm not really sure what you mean by price. The non spirit run stuff is on par with the other large market manufacturers ( Benchmade, Kershaw & SOG ). I can understand your issues with the ergos if you have big hands as I have found that generally Spyderco knives have fairly thin profile handles. I have no issues and they fit my hands perfectly but then again I have small to medium size hands
( Mens size 9 gloves ). I never really cared much for Spyderco's either until I bought and edc'ed one at work. I beat the living crap out of my little Delica 4 and it took all the abuse I could throw at it. Different brands and styles for different folks, you gotta pack what feels right for you.

You don't like them, there is nothing wrong with it. Just find something you like. You don't have to like what others like, don't have to understand why, it's just pointless and counterproductive. You have tried several models, they are not your cup of tea, just move on, get what you like and enjoy it. No need to question anything. You're not missing out.

+1 on this. Just to use your Strider example, for me, the ergos and in-hand feel of Striders (or at least the SMF and SnG) are perfect. Just goes to illustrate what you were saying about that ergos/feel being a very individual thing, which was exactly what I was going to say in response to the OP as well. If he doesn't like the ergos of Spydercos, the fact that lots of other people love the way they feel in the hand won't change that.

I like sypderco knives, my EDC is a spyderco stretch and for the most part I love it. It has much more bladeplay then I'm happy with but other then that its pretty good.

I would agree their a little over rated sometimes, especially the cheaper FRN models, IMO they are not the heavy duty knives some people claim them to be. That being said, over time you will come to learn that new blades will almost never live up to fanboy hype.

You are right about the thin profile handles. The more I think about it between yours and aznpos531 posts. Maybe the thin handles just don't let me feel as though I have a solid control grip. Especially when using the chest lever grip. I have always read and heard great things about their steel but I might just have the wrong hands to appreciate the knives. Maybe I will buy or try to find someone with the Moran designed knfie. the handle seems thicker and might solve my Spyderco problem.

A Strider SMF fits my hand perfect, the blade is just bigger than I want to carry. I love the Spyderco para2, the handle is just not quite large enough. Everyone's views are just that. You buy what you as an individual prefer. At work for me the best thing is still one of those razor folding knives. I wish someone made a quality one. 50 bucks or so for a quality one would be perfect IMHO.

If you haven't already tried them, you might also check out the Manix 2 and Gayle Bradley. Both are quite a bit thicker than Spyderco's FRN-handled knives, which tend to be the thinnest in their lineup.

I am just the opposite of you and can't figure out why people would like anything else but Spydies because of the choices you have with them as far as size and all the different types of steel they come in and they stand behind there product 100% every time.! I have a total of 186 Spydies and it seems like they all fit my hands some way or the other.! Maybe it is because I really don't like Spydies "more of a I love a Spydie thing than anything else" they all just seem to fit my hands.! In my humble opinion there is no better folder made than a Spyderco ~~ period.* Enough said!!!!

Bush Ogre, what knives do you have? What is it you like about them, and wish spyderco ( and maybe other manufacturers) would do different. I have XXL hands and some fit my hands very well, some don't. This signifies to me that you haven't really checked out or used very many Spydercos.

No one is saying you have to like spydercos. There is no right or wrong in liking knives as you should know.

Why do you want to come here and have people validate your opinion? That typically signifies that someone is attempting to begin an argument, or "troll" .

You have obviously seen the high regard a lot of BF posters have for Spyderco, and Sal G. in particular, or haven't you been paying attention. Do you think they are all wrong? I'm curious.

Ahhh, you got me! You got me to click on this waste of a thread with your alluring thread title! I feel like I've been rick-rolled!

I don't get it either. Never held a Spyderco in my life and probably never will.
They're ugly with very thin flat handles. I also don't get why the are so high priced.

Plus having read a thread about the Manix's ball lock failing where Spyderco's response was very uncool I'm not exactly hurrying to buy one of them.
Also seeing the Tenacious having paper thin bushings (even my $6 Sanremnu doesn't have that) doesn't help.
