Costco, wadsworth and park meadows both have inside liquor stores. Costco on santa fe has an attached liquor store that is not costco.
I can see that costco raised prices slightly due to total. But both places are still the cheapest in the area. Total wines private barrel of woodford double oak is one of the best bourbons I've had anywhere near its price. Total wine typically beats the competition and you get points back and a chance at rare bottles. For example, they called me 4 weeks ago for thefirst come first serve grand reserve event. I didnt show up early and walked out with s weller full proof for 69 bucks. There is lots of liquor stores in the area.though. i have found old dusties in many places in colorado. Lots of competition.
I drive by both the Wadsworth/Quincy store and the Riverpoint store off Santa Fe on a daily basis during the work week. The Riverpoint store closed that outside liquor store (didn't renew their lease) like last summer. Unfortunate, as they had the lowest prices on a number of items anywhere I'd found (to include Costco on Wadsworth), and I had developed a good relationship with them. I bought the last 6 bottles of their Blue Note Juke Joint survivor barrel bottles. Yum!
Wadsworth is the one by me that sells hard liquor (Santa Fe no longer does with that outside store closure, dumb laws). ~2 weeks ago before my 3 Lakes fishing tournament boys weekend at Granby, I literally priced several different bottles of tequila and bourbon, and prices were all within a PENNY with a single exception, which was $0.99 cheaper at Total on Wadsworth/Belleview. I did find a nice EH Taylor barrel aged anejo Corazon tequila at Costco though for pretty reasonable price.
Costco on Wadsworth used to be the cheapest around,
by far, until they raised their prices with Total Wine moving in. I still do not understand what they are doing there, and Dawn, the alcohol buyer for our local Costco's, will not discuss it. Quite frustrating.
So far I haven't gotten "in" with the folks at the Total Wine on Wadsworth. I am in the rewards club, I get emails for that all the time. However, I never get notified of any of their special offerings (no calls, emails, texts, nothing), despite having tried to sign up like 5 times now. I always ask if they have any special bottles, any Weller or Blanton's, etc. and they always say everything they have is out on the shelf. Sure. BS.
I still have a hook-up at Tipsy's/Bevy's where I can occasionally get a Blanton's or Weller, but that's been getting a lot harder recently too.
On a brighter note, we enjoyed a few sips from a bottle of Old Forester Birthday Batch that weekend on the fishing trip.
Costco here was selling blanton's for like 40 bucks this summer...that made news and did last long...
Yeah, they were supposed to get that at my store (Wadsworth/Quincy
Cobalt
) over the summer too, as a guy stocking shelves confided in me while we were chatting whiskey one day. I had the item number and a stock sheet print out he gave me, and for 2 weeks I stopped in every day (sometimes twice a day), and called at least twice a day waiting for it, but it never hit the floor. Finally, the computer system said they had gotten 2 cases in, but they were never put out to sell. I suspect the employees snaked all of it (or it sold out the back door at a markup

).
