I Broke My Knife

Look for an Opinel folder. Should be less than $10 and has a simple lock that actually works. They come in a variety of sizes, and can be had in stainless or "regular" steel.

I recommend either a No. 7 or No. 8 size with the "regular" steel. The stainless isn't too bad.

Or keep your eyes open at Target or other similar stores for a sale on Victorinox Swiss Army Knives.

The Doziers from Ka-Bar are excellent too.

get a mini buck 425 or 444 for under 20 bucks. we get people in work aal the time that say "i want a good knife but i only want to spend $10" i laugh and then show them knives but we then make fun of them after they leave.

Its better to have a cheap modified box-cutter confiscated than a good or even a bad knife. a box-cutter of medium to large size can be had for 1 dollar. thats less than even the cheapest regular sized knife.

Why would you need to modify a box cutter?
The kid wants a knife, not a shiv...

Are you posting this from jail?

Just wondering...

I only recomended the box cutter because he said his parents wouldnt let him buy a real knife. If he can get a good real knife without fear it will be taken, then I would recomend the minibuck, or the S&W Hrt Boot knife. the total cost of those 2 knives would be 25$. both are,IMO, good buys.

Somebody already said the Ka-Bar Dozier for about $20, I have to second that. Great tough ass knife that will last and is low priced. You could also run to wal-mart and buy a Kershaw Vapor for about $20. There are a wide assortment of knives out there for $20 and even a little under that are quality tools and tough as nails. Check ebay because you can get these items even cheaper and new in box. Box cutters are well great... For cutting up boxes.

Sure, the cost of a box cutter is a dollar or two tops. But you need to consider that having such a thing could cause many more problems than just losing the knife. In most places the line between a perfectly legal knife and an illegal weapon is a fine one. The biggest part of making the decision is intent, and I can't really see any practical purpose for having a shiv. So getting caught with a modified box cutter could mean jail, while having a general purpose knife is likely nothing at all, or possibly confiscation of the knife.

Ok, it's not often I post on this forum but for this I come out of the shadows.
I don't know you, were never going to meet and I'm on the other side of the Atlantic. Why am I posting?
Because I don't want you to screw up on that scale

Modifying a Box Cutter and then concealing it is a BAD IDEAR!

At best your parents find it, you get grounded?
At worst? Well you can learn loads about making shanks in prison

SAKS are cheap, Opinel are great and go *very* sharp. There also sheeple friendly. Sand it down, carve the handle have fun.
There are loads of good cheap blades to be had.
Talk nicely to your folks, show them your responsible.
Maybee print this lot out.

What ever you do dont be a prat.
Modify a Box Cutter and you carry a weapon, 911?
All the best
Tim

buy a boxcutter and file it to a point. you can get them at any hardware or dollar store and youre parents won't know. just keep it under your pillow or in a cut-out book. or if you really want to hide it well, pour a little 3in1 in a ziplock bag and put the boxcutter in the bag and burry it somewhere.

I think he's looking for an Every Day Carry, not an Every Day Bury. :D

If you dont have a file, alot of dollar stores have them too, or you can get a better one from a hardware store. Remamber to get the long bladed box cutters and not the short bladed utility knife things.
Bwwaaaahhhhhaaaaaaa! Are you for real?

I certainly WOULD NOT want a good knife confiscated. Although in hindsight, it might not have been the best advice. I still think that if the risk of confiscation is emminent, one should opt for an inexpensive knife (A 10$ mora, a 10$ bucklite, or an sak or opinel)

yeah i thought that if i could buy cheap crap knives a decent one would be no problem with the parents but apparantly not............ also my dad gave me a 5 inch fixed blade when I was four but took it away when i was 12 wtf?? not cool...

anyway keeping the knife isn't a problem... it's buying them... can't do internet cuz i need a credit card so the best time would be when i'm out with friends to get stuff so the parents not lookin... around here there was a guy who had a 1 inch box cutter in his glove box of his car and got arrested for it. just think ppl should know that.

You could always buy a butcher knife. They can be had for about $1, and make good CQC weapons in my experience. you have to sharpen them up first, though.

If you insist on lubricating a folder like this, try powdered graphite, you should be able to get it from hardware stores or from a locksmith. Just a tiny dab should free it up with out loosening anything or making a mess, also. oil would tend to act like a crap magnet and end up a gummy mess, this is why you use graphite in locks. Worked for me once but then the locking mechanism was a trustworthy one albeit a little bit stiff. :) .

I've got an idea. :D

Check out these KA-BAR/Dozier Folders. $20 a pop for real quality in a tough, compact, light weight, sharp knife -- take your pick of blade style.

There's lots of good stuff out there. It's more reliable than hardware store cheapies, which means works better, lasts longer, and is safer.

The Ka-Bar Doziers are "tactical" in that they are one-handers with pocket clips. You might like to consider more traditional folders, like an Opinel or a Swiss Army Knife.
Those Doziers look great! :). I think I'll be buying one of those. Thanks For the link, Mr. Benyamin> :)
