I cannot find firebrick anywhere in my area...

I have been in your shoes. Out here it seems that the only stuppliers that have any idea what soft firebrick is are pottey suppliers. I even contacted a "firebrick" manufacturer and when I asked for the "soft firebrick" he said "what is that" like I was screwing with him. Pottery suppliers, that is where it's at. The closest place I could find was in the SF BayArea almost 2 hours away. Luckily I have family that lives there that didnt mind trading an errand for knife :p. They may even have refractory blanket and satanite when you are ready to do your forge! Good luck buddy. When you find the place that has it, you will be relieved.

I get mine at Menards in the heating and duct work (fireplace) area, home Depot might have it in the same section.

Try a ceramic shop that actually makes ceramics in your area. Go to a small mom and pop place they may have some lying around or will give you a point of contact. I was looking for the same thing, stopped at a hole in the wall shop. When I asked where she got her supplies from she said she didnt need any (she was 85) because she had just bought two new ones and wanted the old one hauled away. Offered to pay but she was happy to get the monsters out of her way. Anyway I ended up with two snokiln kilns a 24 and a 27 for a little sweat. All bricks in great shape, I need 1 ceramic nut and two control rods and they will work, oh and 220 power. Just stop and ask someone a question you never know what you will find.
