I Can't Believe How Much I Love This Knife. Amazing. One of My Favorites.............

My Spyderco Sage 1 would be absolutely perfect if it didn't say Taiwan on the side of it. Lol. I love everything about the knife but that.

I thought you just said you dont do production knives anymore?

The CQC-9 is an Emerson model that's custom only.

As for production knives, I do own a grand total of one, but it's not a 'high end production' which is what I was discussing in my other post. And it's only serving as a placeholder until I take delivery of a handmade knife that I plan on carrying continually from then on.

This might be a lame answer, but my Mora companion surprises me year after year. I keep it as a backup when I'm outdoors and I still find myself reaching for it on many occasions. I have expected it to break or fail me in some way, and yet it never has. For $13 I will NEVER not own a Mora companion. I have other knives that are better that use frequently as well. But the Mora has withstood all of my preconceived notions of what a $13 knife could be, and it impresses me more as time goes on. It's not flashy or pretty or exciting. It just does what it needs to do. I just love that knife.

For me it's the Spyderco GB. I have four in various states of dressing-up or modification. And I can't get enough of the model. I've bought and sold several others, and the GB stick around through it all.

(Pic's missing number four, and the serrated one has a different set of scales on it now.)

Cool picture. Thanks for Posting Friar.

Gayle Bradley is a very skilled knife maker and winner of many cutting competitions. The GB (not the BG which is an old racing airplane) is my EDC beater around my shop and yard. The price is right.

Lots of folks don't know much about it so here is a great video of Gayle Bradley explaining his thoughts when designing this great knife. Obviously I'm a big fan. He walks the walk! FYI, Sal is the owner of Spyderco.

Here are a couple of other good videos about the Gayle Bradley knife, called a "Taiwanese Texan" by some. Lots of Texas associated with this knife, even printed on the side of the blade. I'm sure this really offends the Spyderco workers up in Golden, CO, but hey, go smoke a joint and calm down.

I don't have any high end knives, but my Blur(s) is far and away my favorite without comparison.

I experienced many different knives like edc, but a knife was the best for me Shirogorovs 111CF satin mirror blade finish, it was sold a long time ago , but I always remember this, for me it was the best edc knife

My Brad Southard AVO midtech. I bought it new just about Jan 1, and it's been with me ever since.
There is nothing I don't like about it.

I don't spend much on knives. There's my disclaimer. I have 2 that I like the more I use them and the longer I have them.

My KA-BAR 1219. I just love the look, feel, heft and functionality of that fixed blade. It's got a classic design with a lot of heritage behind it. I'm psyched to go camping this weekend and look forward to giving it some exercise.
My 1982 US made Schrade LB7. Also has a classic look and feel, even if it is ripped off of the 110. Nice weight. It takes and keeps a scary edge for a relatively low priced knife.

Just curious how you are lubricating a sealed bearing system with your own goo.

The bearing system can be removed and disassembled. It doesnt use a permanent plastic seal like some bearings you find in a hardware store but rather really good tolerances. Its hard to describe but there is a steel cup that is milled out so a bearing can be inserted into it. Then that cup has a "lid" that sits inside a milled lip in the cup and it rides on top of the bearing. A picture would probably be best to show you how the system works but I dont exactly want to tear the knife down again and the only picture I know if showing it is on a chinese selling site so i cant link it here.

This custom by Jim Dunlap. I want to be buried with this knife:D

The Dunlap has been in a war for pocket time with my Thorburn L51 and Diskin Fire though, these 3 are very close to me.

Then i guess me and you just have a different opinion on what "custom" is. No matter.

Hey Joel! I have 2 Spyderco from Taiwan, a Domino and a Southard, and those are HIGH quality, I'd say comparable to US or Japanese made. Might be near China, but no way similar quality of a Chinese crap Kershaw or CRKT. Love the Taiwanese Sage!

Both Manix 2s definitely. The S30V FFG continues to impress, and the Cruwear is even better.
Just got my first CRK yesterday, a Zaan, and I'm pretty sure it's not going anywhere.

What's your definition of custom? My particular CQC9 was one of the first ones, before Emerson started laser & waterjet cutting his raw parts. It has all handmade components and hand contoured scales & liners. Hand ground blade, individually filed grooves on the liners and blade..

There was also never a production version of the CQC9.

If that's not 'custom' enough for you I'm genuinely curious as to your standard for what's custom and what's not.

Something about the native I just like I put it away and when I get back to it it stays in my rotation for weeks then away .

Bingo.
Also on of my own fixies that seems to get more belt time than the others

I going have to add my Hinderer 3" Wharncliffe. Even though technically I am still in the honeymoon phase; I am certain that this will be a definite keeper. Just an amazing knife & useful blade shape for me. Then Hinderer had to add the Steel Flame filler tabs. Yeah, I know I just went back on my own rules :)

I own 11 folders. I am completely content with them. I see other knives that I think are cool, but really don't do anything better than what I already have. I have super steels, many different blade shapes and grinds. Noting else I really need.

Here's my current lineup for reference:

Spyderco's:
Manix 2 sprint foliage green w/ CTS-XHP
PM2
Gayle Bradley (I'm carrying it now)
Dragonfly 2 ZDP-189

ZT: 0801, 0561, 0770 CF

Brous Bionic
Kizer Ki423
Three Sisters Forge Beast
LionSteel Opera

Fixed:
Spyderco Schempp Rock
SOG Seal Pup
Becker BK5 convexed by Jerry Fisk
ESEE Izula
