I Can't Collect Anymore

By the standards of non-knife people, I still have too many knives, but I just can't see collecting anymore. My kids are getting bigger, we need a larger house, and the economy in general just is not as friendly as it was in the 1990s when I first got into Spyderco, Benchmade and all the other cool knives. I'll always love sharp things, but I think it's time to walk away.

Nothing lasts forever.
Sometimes you just gotta go...

Collecting hobbies require some disposable income to enjoy.
If you find yourself lacking that, you can always just enjoy what you have until things change.

My experiences have nothing to do with this really, I was able to see the issues, or pick up on them fast and address them quickly.

It's wasn't that I wasn't happy because I was, but I addressed the issues at hand and it ended up that I ended the marriages as a result. ;)

I am a happy person in general.

Really though things can swing either way from what I have seen so no I am not bias.

I am careful about relationships ect though because it directly affects me and my life so when things start going in a direction that I don't care for I address it quickly and end it if that's what is needed.

And I can leave it and never look back.

And I don't miss anything, I see everything because I pay attention to EVERYTHING so NOTHING gets by me.

Has more to do with the training and less to do with my past marriages, picking up on the issues quickly was due to the training.

But this isn't the topic... ;)

My point still is that if you can't get something for yourself every once in awhile then there is a problem.

We really have nothing to argue about because I will always treat myself from time to time. It won't be with high end knives, but it will be something I like for sure!;)

It wasn't only about knives as I pointed out in the thread. :)

As long as you have something that you like you should be able to get it.

Compared to many of you, I am a knife collecting nobody. Compared to my friends, I have a lot of knives. Maybe 30 or so. Mostly cheaper knives. The thing about knife collecting, it's a heck of a lot cheaper to collect knives than guns, so I stay w' knives.

I had a "country boy" grandad and a "city boy" grandad, and they lived in the depression. By the end of their lives, they had a solid 10 or so well used knives. They were collectors too, they just didn't have as many and used them a lot harder.

Good advice here. Knives are just fun if you have the time, money and have your priorities. Fun thread.

Hey Tony! If you can't collect knives anymore, maybe it's time to pick up a few hobbies that allow you to use 'em! For example, I've recently rediscovered my kitchen and have been enjoying making some tasty meals that involve a lot of chopping and slicing. I'm a single fella with no kids (that I know of... ha!) so if I don't cook, I don't eat. I've discovered that I really don't mind cooking, kind of enjoy the 'zen' of it actually, and it gives me a good excuse to use some of my knives from the collection. Sadly, I now want a kick-@ss kitchen knife set and they are expensive... :/ Sometimes you can't win for losing... :D

Best regards, brother!
This is a great point... Now that you have a nice assortment of tools, and also a family to raise, why not combine them? I don't have any kids yet, but the part of my that looks forward to them can't wait to take them out into the woods and teach them things. Camping, canoeing, hunting & fishing, practicing primitive technology and/or survival skills, all of that stuff can be loads of fun, especially if you do it with your children as they grow... and all those activities involve using your sharp & pointy's! :D

Anthony, Carl,

Thank you for sharing the insight through your posts.

I'm too a father .. So I share what you feel.

One of the best thread on BF!
