I cant make knives :(

JT

don't mess around with the scaphoid fracture, which I assume is on the right wrist. That little bone has the worst blood supply of any in the hand, and is the one most likely to not heal. If the fracture is displaced, you will need surgery...find a good hand surgeon.

If it is not displaced, and treated with a cast, DO NOT overuse the hand beyond what the doc tells you.

jt, get well soon. take it easy and do everything the doctor tells you. and quit doing stuff that gets you hurt ;):D.

Man that hurts:eek:

While your down and on the mend, maybe you can work on ideas for knives you want to build.

Fred

Sorry to hear about your accident JT. Last year I underwent shoulder surgery and was out of commission for 9 months. Seemed like I might never forge another knife again. I did a lot of research (reading tutorials, heat treat, grinding techniques, etc...) during my rehab. Kind of kept me in the loop.

Heal Fast,

Bob

That's lousy all right. Hope you heal fast and don't push it. I'm another member of the club that been feeling my youthful injuries much more as the years advance. Take care of yourself now and you'll be glad you did later.

JT, Sorry to hear about the accident. I wish you a speedy recovery. Pretty sure I broke the same bone in my left wrist after falling off a roof about 30 years or more ago. 4 months in a cast. 2 weeks after the fall I found myself back up on the same roof doing the job with one hand trying to keep my family out of the soup line. You need to learn how to "just say no to those skateboards". When I grew up skateboards just started to appear. 2X4 about 2' long with skates screwed or nailed to the underside. After a few times of hitting the curb and landing on my ass I lost my desire and haven't been on one in well over 40 years.

JT, Sorry to hear you went ass over tea kettle. A wrist fracture can be real tricky to heal so inspite of the fact that you will be itching to get back in the shop, listen to the doc. Good luck.

No good.... I hope ya get back to it soon. In the mean time, you send your equipment over to me to so I can keep it warmed up for ya. lol
Naw, seriously, Take care, you don't want to screw it up for good by workin it too hard too early.

wow everyone, thanks for the concern. the onley fingers i can use are on my left hand and thy are a thumb and the ring finger and the pinky which is my new typing finger. what sucks is that i just got my forging press done like the night before. so i have drawing dyes and flattening dyes. ya i have a tempery molded splint on now till the swelling goes down then i get a real cast. i hope i don't have to have surgery but what ever needs to be done. what I'm really concerned about is being able to go back to work :(

What Bill said. Man, this sucks. Sorry to hear about the fall. I broke my arms 5 times growing up. The next to last was my left wrist, probably the same bone as you, and it took forever to heal.

In the therapy world, we call what you did a FOOSH. (fall-on-out-stretched-hand) :( Just hope you didn't look like a douche when you had your foosh ;). It would only be slightly better if someone got it on video.

Hang in there, buddy, you will heal up. Let it heal right, and you'll make better knives because of it.

The knives you have shown us looked great. Keep the thought of doing more in your mind. You will find it will help hasten yor recovery and physiotherapy. The operations and healing times in my life have only geared me up to get going again . Frank

I've never "FOOSH'd" in all my years of skating, I guess some of the martial arts stuff I learned young helped out there. I did sprain/break my ankles as my main injury during that time of my life. :(

The funny thing about getting older is that my mind knows how to do the stuff but the body doesn't respond. Went and played softball at a work function last year, I used to play tourney softball and my church C team finished 6th in the nation one year, my mind remembered but the body couldn't perform :( I was always 2 steps short on hits to the outfield about 3' short on relays to the infield and didn't remember the bases being that far apart :p

Just checking in to see how you are feeling today. Hope you rested well & the pain is minimal.
Take care of your typin' pinkie & keep posting your progress!
Healing & Well Wishes from CamP BoP!

That stinks! Maybe you can use the extra time to design some knives in cad or just on paper. Heal up soon.
