I Don't Buy My Spydercos At Book Stores

This is my small USA made Spyderco collection purchased from honest, hard working Americans, not some fly by night internet trash crooks from E-Fake or Fakazon.

They are a blade forum sponser within driving distance of me. I wish everyone had a brick and morter within driving distance or within road trip range.

I also don't buy knives at knife stores that have those bins and bins of those cheap junky knives that end up in the trash.

You'll have much less stress buying the real stuff and won't end up having to get a printout like the one in background of pic 1 (Sorry about my photo skills):

I wish I were fortunate enough to have a brick and morter store, with plenty of selection and, inventory. That would be really nice.

That's cool. Always nice to have a good store nearby.

Personally, I buy mine online, from dealers I trust who have solid return policies. I count Amazon among those.

Buying on the internet is fine as long as they are honest and reputable. I've read too many stories about folks not getting what they paid for at certain online stores.

If I go to the grocery store up the street from me and see a bunch of fake merchandise, how can I trust the quality of the food (or anything) they sell? I'll go elsewhere.

I buy most of my spyderco's online, but I've bought a few from the outlet store since it's only an hour away.

I had a brick and mortar nearby with a good selection. Sadly, they went out of business. All that's left are a few of the local gun shops and a "large, nationally known, outfitter" store. I also have the larger brother to your Silky, the 170. Great saw.

I always wondered why knife shops don't carry Silky. Lots of knife people love saws, Silky or otherwise. It would be a great item to cross sell. My favorite is the Silky Super Accel 210, it has an aluminum frame instead of steel and weighs just a tad more than the Pocket Boys. Who comes up with the names for the saws at Silky?

Hmmm...how bout a Spyderco saw maybe a little larger than the Military that took replacable saw blades of the same quality as Silky? I would be all over that!

I live in a little hamlet called Los Angeles, so I'm fortunate to have a couple of B&M stores near me. Having said that, I also buy from online dealers, book stores, auction sites, even the BF Exchange. So far I've managed to avoid getting burned by "internet trash crooks". YMMV.

^^Many aren't so lucky. Glad you never were cheated out of your $$.

I would also tend to trust BF members more than someone at an auction site. The store by me is a family owned business, glad to give them "too much" of my $$!

You and me both. I pay close attention to feedback ratings and try to be as careful as I can. But I realize that any time I'm buying from someone other than an Authorized Reseller, I'm rolling the dice.

The only damn Spydercos I can find around here are at Bass Pro, and they're always blacked-out and have a combo-edge. I don't buy any knives like that anymore. There is one store that I've been to in the state, but it's nearly 3 hours away. I would like to buy from the guy next time I'm in town, because he was very, very nice and knowledgeable. A little tiny shop in a very old mid-west town, the guy spent a half-hour showing me everything he had, and he was very enthusiastic! It was before I had the bug, otherwise I'd have bought something. :)

I have never had one problem with Amazon they couldn't fix with one email, and I have been their customer since about 1998. Bladehq is about an hour from my house but I buy all my stuff online anyway... Habit I guess.

I've never had a problem they didn't fix 100% to my satisfaction in the past. I just don't know if they are doing everything they can to stop these miscreants. I just hate to see a "Is this fake?" thread on any forum for any item.

On another note...I didn't know Spyderco made a saw. I'd probably still need replacable blades. I am a heavy user (National Forest trail volunteer). I prefer a small saw over loppers, much smaller and lighter and packable after a long day. The Silky is a great saw with a great blade but it needs replaced once a season.

I got a Caly 3 in ZDP189 from Amazon that I thought was a return. I honestly planned on keeping it but I still contacted Amazon to tell them that I was a little upset. I made no mention of wanting to return it or a refund. The next morning when I woke up I had an email from them. They apologized and told me to treat this as an isolated incident and overnighed me a new Caly. I was floored when they told me to keep the other one as well. I have nothing but good things to say about Amazon.

I would buy from New Graham if they wasn't over an hour away but outside of them, it's online.

Kind of a blanket condemnation of the vendors who sell thru amaz@@ I think. I've had no issues with any of my purchases but one, and it was rectified quickly and courteously.

I would venture to guess that most of us here don't have access to decent brick & mortars, so online buying is the only option.

Is the OP also saying he wouldn't buy a Spyderco made in one of their off shore plants?

I buy most of my stuff from the Exchange; have been very happy 99% of the time. Some of my nicest folders come from our supporting dealers; my fixed blades from our custom makers, and they've always been great. Yes, I also purchase assorted merchandise, including folders, from Amazxx, because they generally have the lowest price (I live on Soc Sec) and an excellent return policy... which I've never needed to use.

Jonc123, your unwarranted dither about "Fakazon" seems to have given them a nice supporting lift. Perhaps, NOT your intent?

I have bought dozens of knives off e-bay and have never had a fake one. A lot of members here would be taking pictures and screaming "fake" on the front step of the Spyderco factory store.
