I was thinking of getting a Sarge7 but I can't imagine what idiocy possesed them to remove the jimping (on a knife designated as a survival and rescue no less). On a $450 knife, for me thats probably a deal breaker unless there's something I'm missing?

What's the question?

I know some did not like the jimping on the SARs,for myself I loved it.
The SARGE 7 gives the guys that did not like it an option to get a SAR without it.

yeah if you want jimping, just get a 6 or 8, or see if garth will make you a custom 7 with jimping

If I had the money I'd get one! Hell.....If I had the money I'd own every freaking ass Busse made!!

Did you try contacting them to see if you can order one with jimping? From what I gather they are very easy to deal with and a semi custom maker and there are many custom busse and kin on the market sugesting they do custom work. Or just jimp it your self. Posting that on here will generate a lot of Bad Response. Just a heads up!

+1 on what everybody else said, especially the you catch more flys with honey part :)

Perhaps a polite inquiry should precede charges of idiocy...

heheh....I have to agree with this, although for what it's worth, I never did get an answer out of Garth as far as why jimping was removed when I did about it on the forum (to be fair, he could have never seen it for all I know).

Having handled SARs and SARGEs, my guess is that it was removed simply for thumb comfort when choked up since the jimping is fairly aggressive.

taiChiFighter - they are super easy to deal with at Busse and I'm sure you could have jimping added for a reasonable fee. I was close to doing this to my SARGE, but ultimately changed my mind when I decided to swap it out for a CGFBM. I imagine I'll have it done to whatever SARGE I eventually get my hands on :)

For what it's worth though, the SARGE is so light and slick, and feels so good in the hands (while still being an awesome performer) that adding a fire-steel striker to your pack or sheath is a small small price to pay and ultimately well worth doing. It will still be lighter than a SAR6

The spine of the blade is thick enough that you really don't need the jimping. I have 2 SARGE 7LEs, a SAR 6LE, and a SAR 3 LE.

When the jumping came out on the original knives there were a good number of people that complained about it. Personally, I like the jumping, but that opinion was far from universal. I imagine that Busse removed the jumping to give some options. Maybe we will see a jumped up SARGE in the future.

I don't like jimping personally on my survival blades. I do like it on some hunting knives but the majority of mine doesn't have it.

For me, the jimping on the SAR series is a little aggressive. I end up sanding it down to my comfort level.
As for the SARGE 7, I do not miss it at all.
All jimping aside, I believe the SARGE 7 is an amazing blade, one of the best in it size. It replaced my NMSFNO as the do it all blade.
If you have the means I would not hesitate. The thinner grind promotes a deep bite when chopping and is a killer slicer.

So this blind man walks into a bank and pauses for a moment. As the tellers look on, he reaches down and grabs his seeing eye dog by the hind legs and starts swinging him in a circle. Shocked, the bank manager yells, "What the heck are you doing to that dog?!?"... The blind man replies, "Don't mind me, I'm just having a look around".
