I feel naked without my...

I agree with the container comment - whether it's a water bottle or (even better) a stainless steel vessel of some kind.

matches and / or a magnesium striker come in a close second for me.

Best,

My pistol, and when I have that, I feel naked without a rifle within reach. Not in the woods, but I feel naked without body armor when I'm not on duty. Kind of wierd I know.

I have about half a dozen things that I consider to be my essential equipment, but right after my knife comes at least one (usually 2+) source of fire. This does not change, no matter where I am or what I'm doing. And, no, I don't smoke!

My knife and pistol, those two things make me feel a tad vulnerable after that it would be my compass.

I really DO feel naked without a pocket knife. My second most important item is a watch. If I'm in the woods, I must have a way to make a fire easily, period. After that everything else is secondary, even a firearm for the CCW fans and a cell phone.

In order:

PSK kit. Has everythig I really need.
Metal pot for boiling
Axe or saw

Other that that my clothes are rather important;)

I feel naked without my minimum kit.

All in a medium fanny pack

1. my knife and a hone

2. small stainless billy pot

3. at least three ways to make a fire under most any condition
Swedish fire tool
fire piston and tinder
match safe with lifeboat matches

4. poncho and contactor garbage bag

5. Aero Medic pocket survival kit

6. my handgun

7. filter straw

8. 10,000 hour LED flashlight

The most important thing, proper clothes. This ranks higher than a knife IMO.

SAK zippo PSK and i cant carry any of that to school even though i couldnt kill anyone with my leatherman squirt P4 in my PSK because the lock on isnt strong enough for me

GPS, I like to grouse hunt and canoe. When you start following your dog through the woods in search of grouse and woodcock for hours on end it is far to easy to get temporarily misplaced, my GPS has saved my bacon more then once and keeps all the good spots from previous years.
I bring the GPS on canoe trips but only use it to mark my starting point, camp sites, and portages as I go, other then that it's all maps and compass.

My watch or lighter, I suppose. I have certain things that I always carry, everywhere:

1.) Main locking folder.
2.) SAK.
3.) Watch, on my belt, because I can't stand anything on my wrists.
4.) Compact ink pen.
5.) Zippo or Bic lighter.
6.) One of those little ID wallets that only carry ID and credit cards.
7.) Cash.

I couldn't agree more. A cup for boiling water, digging, collecting water etc. is so underrated. You see a lot of people taking purification tablets, but without a cup?! That's strange at least?! How you gonna make safe drinkwater etc?

A knife and a cup....yep the ultimate minimal kit.

Well said. A cup or pot is always in my top 5-10 list for this exact reason.

I feel exposed with no lighter or fire starting gear of some kind. Cant purify water with no fire.
