I mainly use it as a rod holder while I fish from the bank.

I also did some boning on a cultie sheath last week. I did a pretty good job, but I need to get a harder tip like you did before I try to bone again.
 
Ken, I have deer antler that I've been working with lately, I'll send a tip with your next sheath. Makes a much stiffer boner, and stiff boners are the secret. ;)

I saw a tv commercial last night about making my boner bigger. Are you connected to that group?

I'm sort of a do-it-yourself'er when it comes to my boners. My boner has just the right curve and tip. I may just fiddle with it and make it longer.
 
In all seriousness (ha!), that boner is drilled and tapped and used to have a .50 caliber jag on it. It was a pipe tamper I made. Then I got a better piece of antler and swapped it out.

Since the little piece, which I found last night, is perfect for boning, I may use the threaded hole to add a wooden handle of some sort. It works fine as is though. :thumbup:
 
Must remember not to be drinking anything when reading this thread, the coughing fit was rather painful, and soda through the nose still hurts like the dickens. :p

Right. My boner is threaded so I can make it longer. You'll see me on late-night television soon as soon as my patent clears.

I'm happy with my boner, so you can send Ken a new boner. His boner needs a harder tip.

I don't know. I'm afraid, if I tried that, I'd just screw it all up.
 
This thread inspired me so much, I decided to do some boning of my own.

The sheath was a cheap $15 generic #4 pouch sheath from Green River Leather. I picked it up at their booth at BLADE. Here's what it looked like before:

And here's after. I soaked it in hot water for around 10 minutes, and used the blunt end of a sharpie plus my hands to shape it with the knife in the sheath. Allowed it to dry for around 45 minutes before pulling the knife out, and then let it sit on some paper towels overnight to dry fully. Super easy to do and great results.

Alright Mr Mustard! I've been putting off wet forming the Green River sheath for the Vex. I will have to oil the blade up and bone it this week. That really turned out nice.
 
It's nice to see other folks getting into boning. Boning is fun.
