I called a company to day that i thought might have some w2. Well i was right they do. He told me he has it it plate and round. I'm having him work me up a price quote on five hundred pounds of .75 round. They also do custom melts if they dont have something i need. So what i'm wondering is if i can get a good deal on this stuff would there be any takers. Size is not a problem as i could put an order through for a bunch of sizes even plate down to size for the stock removers to use.

Yup!! 3/4" & 5/8". Keep us updated on pricing. I just did some testing with a piece. [a blade that I did'nt like the grind] I was impressed with the toughness as I was under the impression that it was better for smaller knives. This one sure is taking a beating and wanting more!!

You're sure it's w2? Will he provide specs?

I'd be interested in some 1/4" plate, and some 1" rounds.

yes it's w2, i told him all i could find other places was w1 and i needed w2. they will provide the specs. also if for some reason they don't have it they can do a custom melt for me and make it what ever i want. the minimum order for a melt is i think 300 pounds so not to bad. i will keep you updated. What are the specs for a good premo grade W2 any one know? when i get the alloy specs i will post them here

If it's the real thing I'd be interested in 1/4 and 3/16 bars between 1 1/2 and 2 inches wide.

i'm trying to get an idea of what sizes would be needed. i dont want to have to many but a hand full would be ok.

I was thinking about these sizes. but it could be to many.

1/16" x 1"
1/8" x 1"
1/8" x 1.25"
1/4" x 1"
1/4" x 1.25"
5/8" round
3/4" round
7/8" round
1" round

count me in.............. email me when you are ready to ship some...... looking for 1" to 1 1/2" round at most.....

Maybe i can get a small batch of some 3/4" and send it to some of you to try out and see how you like it.

Just a thought, but y'all may want to hold off on the orders until you hear the price. ;) I also found some places that sold W2, but the prices were so exorbitant that I decided to forget about it. Then along came Don Hanson... :D

Funny Phillip :)

But you're right, I looked into a custom melt and was quoted around $8-$10 per pound.
And that was a couple years ago, would have to be more now.

JT, I hope you found a good source, cause I'm tired of selling it and about out :)

Good specs for W2 would be;

.90-1.00 C
.18-.25 V
less than .20 Mn

I had my hopes up for the new Curcible steel, but it will have way too much manganese for my likes.......

If it does work out maybe i will just have it sent to you and you can deal it out ;)
