I get why Emerson did the ZT Collaboration

Haha... You are funny. I'm actually a somewhat private person, no Facebook or Twitter, etc. My political and religious beliefs are my own and I am quite comfortable with them. I don't feel compelled to wear a T-Shirt with that information as advertising. As far as true free speech is concerned, on a privately owned forum (regardless of who owns it or what forum it is) free speech doesn't necessarily apply. I also try not to be too ignorant (always leave room for error), when I don't know the answer to something I usually leave it to people more knowlegeable than myself. So if you insist on talking smack about a knife you have never owned or even intend to own, why put yorself out there? You said it yourself. Please don't feel compelled to compare life stories, you're compensating and turning this into something personal that doesn't need to be. If you insist on speaking matter of factly, at least do yourself a favor and insert a disclaier. Same goes for your opinions on other things, if you are not here to learn simply say so. If you continue to have a bone to pick with me, please, please let me know and we can squash the issue once and for all. The sooner the better actually, that wa these kinds of exchanges can be avoided. They really do nothing for me and only serve to detract and take the focus off why evyone is here. I have no ill feelings towards anyone here.

Me to no Facebook, or no Twitter, but I do love reading my dumb nephews tweets, and laught when he tweets about his supply of herb, aka majuhuna drying up. Having to go to a bad neighborhood to buy herb. I want to say Fred do you know with a quick names search, and a future employeer could see you are a doper, but he would get offended.

To get this back on track, here's my thoughts. I had the opportunity to handle both 0620 versions at G6. I don't see either being too slick to work with as the ergos are pretty good regardless of the scale material. I like the blade shape, very reminiscent of the ETAK B. I have to say, they appear to be great knives with the little I've experienced them. That said, I won't be purchasing one. It's nothing against ZT, they make great knives. I just prefer the real deal over the collabs for a few reasons.

First being the pivot bolt. I don't ever carry a wrench for pivot adjustments and disassembly. I do always have a multitool and I can fully disassemble and clean an EKI knife anywhere any time. Also, there's just something about the way an EKI knife feels, not just in hand but in an intangible way. It's an "I know this is a tool" feeling that I don't get from any other company. I think the collabs, the Zt and Kershaw models, are a good idea and a maybe it will bring those that have held off on buying a full Emerson around to trying them out.

The way I see it, Mr. Emerson designed those knives and approved them to go into production with ZT. And from what I've seen and read of him, he isn't the kind of man to put his name on a shoddy product just to make a quick buck. So he obviously thinks those knives are good enough to put his name (and with that, his reputation) on those knives.
Thats all I need to know.

And while I can't afford a real Emerson or a ZT at the moment, I have two of the Kershaw collabos on order

And for the "why" - it brings a lot of attention to the Emerson brand and allows people to experience an Emerson designed knife for a lower price. Maybe get them interested in the real ones.

I made my case for my remarks, but you must not have red or was it read ever word I wrote. Living in the U.S.A. We still have their first amendment don't we?

I made my case for choosing what I liked, why I liked it, and by the way was spending the money I earned to buy it. If you would like to GIFT me ZT, that would be a nice offer. But honestly I would just sell it, and use the money for Emerson # II.

that's a head scratcher for sure lol..... both emersons and the ZT/emerson both happen to be emerson designs. The only thing that makes the ZT a ZT is that they made it..... it was 100% designed by Mr. Emerson.

i just broke down and ordered one, along with a black ZT0801. i just received a mini commander and a micro commander, and traveler too. and a week or two before that it was a cqc 8 and a super commander. now i cant stop thinking about the persian and the all black cqc13. im losing my mind here guys, im spending way too much cash, i need help.

this is spot on here...... I think the OP is an Emerson knife fan and is hating on the new ZT models. In my personal opinion..... the ZT model is in fact superior not only in materials but in price for what you get as well. 200+ for 154cm...... 400+ for framelocks. great knives and all but for the money you can do FAR better. at 200-240 you get a heavy duty titanium framelock, elmax or M390 steel, g10 or carbon fiber, dlc or satin/stonewashed. The real understanding behind why he did it is simple..... to broaden his business. I applaud him for that. Lots of people happen to love emerson knives, while many others just don't feel the materials are worth the cost, or are left wanting a little bit more... whether that may be blade steel upgrades, or materials, etc. The ZT model branches out to the people who love the designs and get the "super steel", upgraded materials, a true V edge, and whatever else they seem to be looking for. While two separate groups can argue why each is better or worse, ill quote Sal Glesser "Not bad, just different".

Amen preach on. +1 I will say that the ZT is heavy compared to any emerson and takes a little getting used to. But other than that I cant find one thing I don't like better than standard Emerson or CQC 12 ($445.00 MSRP low end ZT $300 MSRP high end) Which as I have stated the CQC 12 is still less quality than ZT in my opinion and I have owned them and used them. And ZT definitely was not designed to be a safe queen there is nothing foo foo at all.

I'd have liked to see larger versions of the Kershaw Emersons, but made by ZT. The 620 is a nice knife, but I prefer the variety of the Kershaw designs more.

I was thinking maybe another reason for the chines kershaw would be to have a dog in the fight. If they have a chines manufacturer who has a vested interest in protecting the brand and kershaw to back that up they could go after the nock off manufacturers in China.

As I have seen and handled all the New Kershaw-Emerson colabrations knives, I honestly that if you are lok down on a display of knives, and it is a mix of Kershaw-Emerson colabrations, and the Real EMERSONS. Unless you are sharp at first glance both lol like the same line. The Kershaw colabrations are when you shop around a super value.

I am still pinching pennies for Emerson II, and now that I have seen the Southpaw Seven with Back Spacers, I may just get another SEVEN.

I happen to own both I have a 0620cf I got from house of blades when they had them in stock and wow I was impressed. I own 5 zero tolerance knives and I own 4 emerson knives both have there own things I enjoy. No matter how you feel if one knife is more capable then another I dont believe that many of us will ever use our emersons in a knife fight so the little less traction on the zt for the better looks and materials (in my opinion) is just plain and simple a win to the end buyer they both are great and im glad to have them.

i got my zt emerson today. while its a solid knife, i dont really recommend it unless you are big a ZT fan. now that i have the knife in my hand, i kinda just wish i had spent the money on an actual emerson. for the price of the zt you can just about have your pick of any of the top emerson models.

the only issue i have with mine is that its very hard to open with one hand. im assuming it may need to be broken in.
