This is only slightly different on the Suunto Mc-2G. Open the compass and set the bezel to 270 degrees. You open the mirror to 30 degrees - and while sighting down the long portion (matching this to the slope of the rise your are trying to measure) you look at the mirror. The black needle will tell you what angle that rise is.
Now that I know this - I have been practicing with it. Pretty cool.
