I got bit tonight

5 stitches at the base of my left index finger.

Two separate cuts. Both about a half inch in length, one about 3/8 inch deep the other about 1/8 inch deep.

Before deciding to go to the ER I tried pressure for about 30 minutes. It just wouldn't stop bleeding. So, I drove to the ER with my wife laughing at me the whole time.

Yes, I read the threads about being bit. I did one wrap without any issues. Got new cord and decided to rewrap. Went OK until the end.

I'm thankful I didn't hit anything important internally.

Last time I had stitches I was 3 years old. That was a long time ago.

I did get some crappy cell phone pics just before they put the stitches in. I'll get them posted soon. I'll also get some pics when I take the bandages off.

For some reason I'm hungry now.

ryanr256, now the Izula belongs to you and you alone, you have bonded with it . . .
Glad no tendons or ligaments were cut, it's just amazing how many posts have been on here about just the Izula being the one with the blood thirst.
Take care, good luck with the healing process.
Be safe.

Wow, I think this is the fourth of fifth time I've heard somebody get bit by their Izula while wrapping. Should I tape the edge off with painter's tape when I wrap mine? Is that the best way to be safe?

I would use duct tape (duck tape?) and make it longer and wider than the blade. I would fold the tape over the spine and seal it at the cutting edge, with about a half inch of tape past the edge.

But, what do I know?

Glad you didn't get messed up to bad. I think I will tape mine some how when I wrap it. I have had alot of stitches in my life and don't really want any more.

I was nicked inspecting my HEST. I'd blame the sharpness of the excellent blade. My daughter's Disney Princess bandaid will be my beacon never to be inattentive with a knife.

So you have my sympathies.

Very nice, looks sore as hell.

atleast you will have a scar form a knife and not somthing stuipid like working on the car...

Here's mine from a month ago. I got lucky and didn't hit the tendon. It was close though. All healed up now, still tingles a bit from time to time which I'm sure will fade.

You have got to be kidding me.... doesnt look like fun.

Wow. This little guy deserves his name.
But like others have said, you two are now bonded. May you be good to each other.

My zaan bit me the first day I got it. I have have it in my pocket every day since, even after getting my lg Seb. There is a bond.

My little girl's pink Izula got me for the same reason. After the bleeding stopped, I went into the garage and clamped it in the soft jaws of the vise. Afterward, the wrap turned out very good. Better for me to bleed on it than her.

The usual cause is wrapping the handle of an Izula with paracord without first making SURE the blade is secure. There are many threads like this, some with slightly gruesome pictures.

Wow- you called it! Its not unlike an aggressive but loyal dog, no?

How are you guys doing this?
Putting it in the sheath and then pushing against the sheath to pull that cord tight?

That's what happened to me. Instead of letting the knife hang free when tying the finishing knot, I had the knife and sheath cradled in my hand loosely. When I was pulling the knot tight, it put tension against the top of the sheath and pop she went. Lesson learned, I got lucky.

That's a good idea too. Or gaffer's tape; it leaves no sticky residue.
