I got bit tonight

I actually got bit "not wrapping" it but I still wasn't paying attn to what I was doing in the woods. I learned from playing with balisongs to tape the blades when I'm just playing with them. I would have had another one that looked like that one had I not taped the blade the first time or two I wrapped a izula.

There should be a big waring on the bag "hey dumbass don't tie the knot and hold onto the sheath" myself included glad I taped it; finger cuts suck.

You have got to be kidding me.... doesn't look like fun.

Yep use a heavy tape, I tried electrical tape the first time:o It cut right through it with out much pressure right after i had it taped up lol. Sharp little bugger I love it though. I've sold many Izulas but the first one I bought is always close waiting to take another bite out of me if I don't respect its authority!!! heh

I would use duct tape (duck tape?) and make it longer and wider than the blade. I would fold the tape over the spine and seal it at the cutting edge, with about a half inch of tape past the edge.

But, what do I know?

:D

i have now gone to the scales only system for the izula. the one that cut me wasn't even for me worse luck, it was a christmas gift for one of my daughters friends. poped right out of the sheath on the final knot just like the op's went to the bone on the middle finger and deep on the ring finger. it severed the nerve and artery on my middle finger and it still isnt right i will probably have to have surgery.

I've got an Izzy on the way. I plan on wrapping it and this thread has certainly made me realize I need to be extra careful. I hope you guys heal well and quick.

It seems like the Izula is the common theme for self mutilation.

Is there any chance of getting 5 stitches or at least a self suture kit included in the ESEE warranty? :D

I second that.
In our warning-crazy society I find that knives are the last safe haven.
So far it has been to our detriment. How are we, the innocent consumer, supposed to know which end is the sharp one? We should be able to hold the manufacturers responsible for bodily harm.
I call for strict warnings on knives henceforth.

It's not that Izula's "bite" so much as simply the way they show affection for their handlers. Getting "bit" while wrapping the handle isn't a vicious attack, it's a "Thank you for putting my pants on."

As promised, here's my pics:

Bad cell phone pic just before they did the stitches. The camera decided to focus on a different plane:

Did they give you those cookies in the background? All they gave me was a bill... :P

That's actually a catalog we got in the mail today.

Everyone posts pics with all the outdoorsy, manly stuff in the background. I figured I would do something different. Plus it's kind of a commentary on my situation. Maybe I should take up baking. :p

;)

I know I was just razzing you :) All in good fun; maybe we can open a bake shop together since I'm on the list of don't give this guy a knife either.

Bob's baked goods because there safer than an Izula. I love it.

Not a problem. That's part of why I used that as a background.

I deserve to be razzed.

One complication with the bakery though. Burns. Ovens get hot.

Ouch... damn.. some of those look painful.
Good tip... wrap the blade in duct tape before wrapping in paracord

Sorry, Bob, but baking isn't safe either. I was making breakfast for my wife and daughter one Saturday morning when I dropped a 2-cup Pyrex measuring cup. My right foot got out of the way, but the left was too close to the cabinets so I wrapped my cut ankle and drove myself to the walk-in clinic for about 8 stitches.

That's okay. Life isn't supposed to be 100% safe. Where would we be without a little excitement from time to time?

Heal fast!

I had a friend who I traded my Izula to cut himself the same way. I haven't been cut by the izula BUT I did get a nice cut while wrapping my Spyderco spot. :D

I was washing one of my Beckers in the sink last night about 15 min after reading on this thread and saying to myself be careful don't cut yourself, then i started thinking about pie or somethin and cut myself.

my bk11 bit me tonight, just the same way the izzy got everyone, pulling on the finishing knot in the wrap, serves me right for being cheap and not springing for the scales

Dumb question, but when wrapping the Izzy, can it not be left in the sheath, thereby minimizing, if not preventing the notorious Izula bite. I know it's a little bad ass, but it couldn't be so tough as to jump out of the sheath.

PS, this question/comment was not meant to be snarky, I'm just curious. And truth be told, I'm a bit of a chicken, becuase I went with the scales.

Damn, I guess we're gonna have to start shipping a freakin poster board piece of paper with every Izula explaining how not to get cut. As many of these things that have been posted here you'd think people would learn from comprehending what they read.
