Seems he is saying he goes about alone in a really large city all the time. He feels the need for knife to protect against things he's seen. I'm not saying he has no right to defend against attackers. It would be great if every victim could have had a gun and killed their attacker at just the right moment.- I think if this boy is going about alone where bad things happen regularly at 14 (and yes a big boy at 14 still looks like a big young boy) Just maybe he going to have a false sense of security from packing a weapon and likely will get killed. Maybe his mother should try really hard to keep the youngster closer till he's old enough to be out and maybe has a little more sense.

Ok, seriously, you've made your point. I don't agree with it, accept that. All you are doing now is derailing the thread, increasing your post count, and pissing me off. Unless you have something of value to offer, please do me a favor, and stop posting in this thread.

Are you sure you didnt get your butt kicked for making fun of the thieves grammer or being a smart aleck? Minding my language because there is children on this forum.:D:thumbdn:

I agree about the false sense of security. Just because I've trained for 10 years and carry an emerson commander with me everywhere doesn't mean that I feel 100% safe. Now I don't know why or how often vanc99 has to go out on his own, but it seems that it is enough for his mom to want him to get a good knife. Now, this won't solve everything, but it may help in feeling just a little bit better when out alone. There is actually a W&SS thread about that and I'll edit that in when I find the link. Grown men feel the need to carry when they are alone too, so why not a 14 year old?

I must have missed that... All I want is advice about knives, not lifestyle, or idealoges.

I heard a lot about commanders as well as benchmades. So I'd take a look there....

Why are you questioning the legality of everything?

Yeah jill, you are asking too many questions and not taking any names. You are starting to take things too literally, in fact, literal and liberal are almost spelled the same......makes me wonder what you are doing on a knife forum? :p

vanc99,
I'm sorry that I cannot recommend a knife for you as I only carry a vic swiss-army knife, and I don't follow the folder market much, except the william henry knives. I sometimes carry a small fixed blade as well.
I personally would recommend some self-defense courses, I think they will help no matter what you decide on for a new knife.

Thanks,
Del

Well people have said it before, but I must do so as well.

GO TO A GOOD GYM & TAKE EITHER BOXING, BJJ, MUAY-THAI OR ANY SORT OF FMA) OR A COMBINATION OF THESE

I believe the cost of your knife can pay for a good 3-4 months atleast it can at my gym for fees and such. Money comes and goes, but the lessons it will teach you will stick with you. Overall have some common sense and develop situational awareness they will both go farther with you than some false sense of security of you carrying a knife.

If you do decide that you still need a knife for SD, because of your age I would suggest something that fits a 14 year old. Please nothing to tactical, because then after using the knife you could get in more trouble. So stay away from the big huge folders, and stick with a small folder. Waved Delica is the only folder I'd recommend to you at this time.

take care
aj

BM 14205? It looks great for a wave mod, cheap enough if it got lost I wouldn't be to distressed. What about the BM 14460? Looks intriguing...

ummmm usually adults have more common sense than teens. that said, there are teens with more than adults. granted, i dont know where vanc stands. i don't know the kid. however, considering all that has been said, and my own experiances, 14 is to young for a knife for self defense, reguardless of how physically imposing you are or how "mature" you say you are. your mind will still think like a 14 yr old in certain situations, and the guys going after the 14 year old will know it, and will proceed to beat the crap outta the teen.

take the martial arts training. yeah, like batosai said, 100% safe isnt always there, but it does help. at least martial arts will teach you to disarm someone (provided the form of MA).

its your call kid (i dont care if you take offense at that or not). do what you want. i have given my opinion.

OK! NOW THAT EVERYONE HAS AIRED OUT THEIR OPINIONS ON TEENS, KNIVES, TEENS CARRYING KNIVES, SELF DEFENSE AND PARENTING, CAN WE PLEASE DISCUSS SPECIFIC MODELS?!!?

BenchMade 14205?
BenchMade 14460?
Emerson CQC7?

The Snody design knife is the better of the two Benchmades that you mentioned. The 14205 has the axis-lock, which can withstand 1000 lbs of pressure before it closes on you, really great for poking things :D. Plus the blade is thick enough for just about any task that you find, and thin enough for finer things if you plan on using it for stuff besides SD. The Emerson is a great time tested knife which is going to deploy as quickly as you can pull it out of your pocket. So it's either great lock and slower deployment, or quick deployment and no poking things with the cqc-7.
