i got ripped off

before i knew about bladeforum and before I knew much about Becker Knife and Tool I had seen some great looking knives by Becker Knife and Tool on Amazon and eBay.

Then I came across the add on eBay for micarta handles for a BKT patrol machete (but the picture was the handle on the machete so I thought he was selling the knife too) so I emailed the seller who explained he was only selling replacement handles that he made from micarta not the machete. But he said that if I found a Patrol Machete I should buy it because they are hard to find. A couple weeks later I found this on eBay

Below is the description there was also a pic with the B KT etching in the blade near the handle

“Becker Knife and Tool, CM-BK6 Patrol Machete

Up for auction is a Becker Patrol machete. These have been discontinued and are rare. This one has never been used to cut anything but has been handled lightly. No box. Payment expected within 3 days. Here are the specs:
Becker Knife and Tool, CM-BK6 Patrol Machete

Becker Knife and Tool, Becker Knife and Tool Fixed Blade Knives feature: full tang construction, 58-59 Rockwell high carbon 0170-6C steel blades with matte black epoxy powder coat, ergonomic molded GV6H (glass filled nylon) handle scales with lanyard hole, and Kydex multi-carry sheath or nylon sheath as notated.

Patrol Machete: 14" recurve blade .250" thick, 19" overall, nylon sheath”

I won it buy bidding in the last 15 seconds I think I got it for 80 dollars
I checked the seller he had a good reputation. But maybe he got burned and didn’t know it either – I am waiting to hear back from him

The etching does have BK and T one the blade but not real clear and the real problem is It stayed unused as i was going to resell it in the future like an investment. But a week ago I decided to just keep it and I was out in the field behind my house clearing out some thorn bushes.

I went to cut a small branch maybe twice the size of my thumb maybe 2 or 3 inches in diameter and it bent right in the middle of the narrow area of the blade - bent a lot - with my hands i easily bent it back now i am sad - not so much that i wasted the money on it but because i thought i had a real good machete - now i can only think i either have a fake or it was a bad one off the factory or that i got ripped off - either way i am seriously disgusted about this.

Anyway it was my first Becker (or maybe not maybe my first fake) on top of feeling stupid - it is depressing

I still want one maybe someday I will find a real one for sale

Any ideas – suggestions – other than don’t buy off eBay –

Thanks for your time and a place to ask about thing like this

Eric

Welcome to the forum! Sorry to hear of your troubles.
There are some patrol machete's around, If you can afford them. One of our mods has a few he says. Also, there is some info on counterfits that I will try to find for you.

Pics would really help, or a link to the closed auction. Unless you did some crazy as chopping technique, or hit it wrong, I don't see why it should bend the way you describe.

Sorry to hear about that. Do you have a pic of the blade, and the makings?

thanks the auction was in December and i cant find it now - i was going to save it unused and maybe give to my son someday - the sheath looks exactly the same and so does the blade and handle - but i think it might be a little thinner i will get pictures up tomorrow

thank you for the links and info

Eric, amigo, welcome, welcome, welcome. The BK6 Patrol Machete's can be found, and they won't cost you an arm and a leg, but they are a scarce item and hunting is hard, sometimes.

But, these are the halls of BKT and things sometimes just, happen. So, don't get discouraged.

I hate that you got had by a blade bandito, and I'm sure it wasn't the guy selling it, it was the knock off making it.

There are some other good BKT knives out there at the moment, and there are some great guys selling them, dependable and honest, so, give them a try.

May I suggest the BK9, its as close to a machete that you can get right now, and it worth every penny.

Moose

Thanks Moose; sqoon; Widerstand; and slapper I appreciate the encouragement.

I think you might be right sqoon I had been using a Himalayan imports Kukri for larger stuff so maybe i hit it to hard – or on an odd angle but I still wouldn’t expect it to bend like it did.

that looks like one of the fakes. Camillus never sold them that weren't full on black. that looks (partially) polished? 440 crap from china.

sorry you got ripped off, i would make the effort and track down the eBay advert, and esp let me (or Ethan) know who the seller is, so this can be tracked down. someone is selling a bunch of these, and eBay is aware they are fakes and shuts down the auctions if they are reported. as well, since you bought a fake, eBay should cover you and return your money, without necessarily affecting the seller (i think)

that said, Patrol Machetes are coming back, right? that's been knowledge for a little while. can't say when, or how much, or material, or other changes. feel free to keep asking, nobody can say :)

oh, and post more pix, esp of the box that it came with.

if the box has Ethan's picture on it, per the blade faq/db, it's DEFINITELY a fakey fakey

Damn, that sucks brother. Hate to see fake anything being sold on eBay.

Hey BFH44.....

Methinks you have been had.......The handle scales are of a color I have not seen before and the "stamp" appears novel to say the least.......Bladite has the right idea here I think.....

All Best....

Thanks Moose funny you said that - I have been wanting to get the BK9 for awhile and the BK-2 also the BKT3 ( if I ever get back to work that will be on my tool belt )

I was a journeyman Iron worker; Boilermaker; and Millwright for 20 plus years but my lower back is shot out and sometimes i wake up feels like my legs are on fire – I have been disabled about four years ago. Been trying to get well enough to go back to work – they retried me like I am 65 (I’m 45 ) and so money is always tight.

I didn't think anything bad about Becker knives i still plan on getting a couple. I just was disgusted with the fraudulent people -- but not with Becker

Bladeite and Mr Becker I will send you the info on the seller - i haven't seen him sell any but the one i bought. I went back and checked hopefully he will answer my message soon.

Thanks to all of you

Eric

Bladeite i sent you a pm with a link to the seller.

i dont think he sells them regularly it seems to me like hew was in the dark on it and thought it was legitimate or he got burned by someone and was trying to pawn it off on someone else.

I figure it was one of those expensive lessons - i am kinda new to the world of quality knives and collectable or sought after blades - so hopefully i learned something -(cant afford to many lessons like that)

Somebody i was talking with said i should sell it on eBay to get my money back - but I cant see screwing someone like that; i will just use it for a shim to level out my wood stove.
\
scared to use it - blade might break a sail across the yard

expensive shim

thanks to all you that replied so fast i didn't expect that - this seems like a great area on the forum

Hi, I am the guy that sold this to BFH44. I feel really bad this happened to him. I certainly had no intention to "rip him off" I bought it on eBay about 2 1/2 years ago and never got around to using it, so I sold it. As far as I know, there were no fakes being made back then, but I could be wrong. It was new when I bought it, and still unused when I sold it. I never got a box though. I believe it to be a real Becker. There was nothing polished when I sold it, it had a nice black textured blade. I agree the handle is a little on the greenish-black side, but if my memory serves me, it is not as off colored as the pics suggest. The hardware, markings, sheath, finish, and handle shape are all correct. It is nowhere near the fakes that the other links show, and it was in my possession 1 1/2 years before those showed up. Anyway, I hope Ethan will take another hard look at it as compared to the fakes out there. I am no BK&T expert, but I have owned a Companion and still own a Brute and this machete, at least in handling it, seemed to be the same quality. Maybe it just got a poor heat treatment? Either way I feel bad and will do what can for BFH44. I am NOT a guy sitting on a pile of fakes that I got from China selling off as real Beckers! I hate those guys as much as anyone.

hey MEGALODON thanks for being here - I sent you a message on the eBay - I think in the message i said that i wasn't upset just bummed out

i was telling Ethan that in a note -- i didn't think you knew it was like this. I was saying that it was the only one you had and i haven't seen one since on eBay search's

i'd like to see better pix, in sunlight and overcast... but it LOOKS like the blade has a mirror polish in spots in the pictures...

got the PM, looked around some, but nothing really to report yet.

kind of a bummer, but what can ya do? even if it was a genuine Camillus product, they went out of business, so there went their warranty.

maybe some other Beckerhead would want to have a look at it. if it's a bad heat treat, and good 1095, that could be fixed. if it's one of those knockoffs, well, dunno. big bummer.
