I got the call...

I have to brag a little on Jason as he is one of my best friends. You should see the wooden swords that he hand carves and grinds for his kids to play with. They are works of art. Jason can carve anything out of wood and even though I've never seen it, I heard he can carve stone. Jason is a true artist and can adapt to any medium.

I think that this is great advice, Anthony. Jason had asked me to sketch something up along the lines of what I would like, and this is what came of that. Maybe it's a starting point, and at this stage, I'm just going to kind of leave the ball in his court. He is the master bladesmith, after all, and I am a neophyte rookie newb amateur:D

Michael Starr- that camp knife is the bomb:thumbup:

Lorien,
I wasn't trying to discourage you from getting what you want. I have "seen this movie before" for many years an know the ending.

When dealing with a knifemaker as good as Jason you will be happiest if you let him do his thing. Although his knives are of simple materials and construction, there is nothing simple about them. Kind of like a Loveless knife-every curve and contour is there for reason-not just drama.

If you still want Jason to build you a user grade Bolo (thats what I would call your knife I think) I would suggest maple, bronze and leave a hammered texture on the flats. I am suggesting that because he would suggest that as well on a user. Also have him do the bead blasted texture on the maple. Thats bitchin'.

Lorien,
I wasn't trying to discourage you from getting what you want. I have "seen this movie before" for many years an know the ending.

It would take more than a post or two to discourage me from something I really want:D! I've been down the road of designing every aspect of a knife I ordered, and while the end result was better than I might have gotten having left the maker to his own devices, (as a new maker) I learned from that that I will always allow for a broad canvas when dealing with a maker who has the experience and the eye.

When I look back at some of the designs I come up with, sometimes I'm surprised at how lame the design is, even though while I was drawing it I thought it was awesome.

There is a difference, to me, between 'the knife of my dreams' and a 'dream knife'. In this instance, I've been dreaming about the design even during waking hours, and all the permutations of said design. But if asked what my Knight 'dream knife' would be, I'd simply point at this dagger;

But, the honest to god truth is that my budget is really small, relatively speaking. Which might mean the knife will be too. However, I am going to be using this knife and I'm not concerned at how highly finished it is.

If I can afford it, the knife might end up looking something like this;

But, I might end up with a little knife, and that's ok too:)

I'll second that. Even if I were to order a knife from Jason, I'd give no more guidance than I listed in my post above.

To appreciate how well designed his knives are, you should watch Jason with a sketch pad and pencil. He draws like an artist. He starts with a long curve, or a big, soft "S". Then he starts filling in lines, but as he does it, every line runs with or to this big sweeping line he started with. When he's done with the final drawing, you can see why it flows the way it does. Everything has a common thread. Looking at a finished Knight, it's hard to see where that line is, but believe me it's there, and you can see it if only subconsciously.

Agree on a price range and a basic direction. Jason will always give you more than you expect.

I'll third that, or fourth.... or wherever the hell the line is now. ;)

I'm excited for 'ya bud :)

thanks Nick, I'm pretty stoked as well!
You, Burt and Jason are like the three amigos to me- weirdly, I have a knife coming from each of you right around the same time, (hopefully?;) No rush, Nick:D). It'll be like the holey trinity, I hope to reach another plane of understanding of my existence. I'm sure that if I arrange all three knives together in a certain sequence or pattern, either the messiah or aliens will come! Maybe the Stay Puft marshmallow man!

Ach. Can you tell I'm tired? I spent the night sleeping on a floor with a dozen 5-7 year old mini-scouts who were jacked up on rice krispy squares and hot chocolate strewn about the place. Horrible sleep! Really fun, though. I'm enjoying getting back into Scouts:thumbup:, even as someone on the sidelines. I'll be signing up as a leader soon, though.

Sorry, tangent. But yeah, I'm pretty excited these days.

I found this one while looking around the interweb...
Might give you some ideas as I think it would appeal to you.

If it were my dollars, I would definitely go with a big bowie style blade. His bowies are just incredible!

But I know the big knives are expensive.... :grumpy:

Here is one that I carry for and use as much as possible.
I have used it to cut everything from 550 cord, MRE's to DET Cord, prep C4, crack open the back of claymores to daisy chain them and on and on!

This is a tough knife and an awsome piece of kit!!! He made me a user and I use it as much as I can (I have bald spots on my arms from checking the sharpness of the blade)!
BTW, I'm in Iraq (incase your wondering).

The Knight/Chin bowie was sold?

Thank you for posting that knife Stafan, that is the real deal. Im glad it works well cutting the c-4.

I'm worried that I might not get it back going through customs after cutting all that explosives (I have a picture of all the prepped explosives, I'm not going to post it at this time as I don't want to give any ideas to any bad guys). I have some time to clean it and the sheath and I'm sure they will understand.
I'll try to post up some "more" pictures with me and the knife here in Iraq. I have a few good ones but I'm a little hesitant to post those since posting pictures with some of the people I'm with could be dangerous for them (locals nationals of importance). I'll work on getting some of just me here!

BTW, I have to call you sometime to talk about a Bowie (Yes, the wife ok'd it.).

I was thinking about something which is a cross between a fighter and a bowie since I really like them both with about a 9" blade. I need to ask Jason about what he thinks?
Then there is a question of damascus?
Handle type?

The blade would be a user and I have no problem maintaining. I'm thinking about more bowie'ish since I do not own a bowie and I would like to have something nice.

I sent an email. Its hard to get through being here in Iraq!

Here is a safe picture. I am conducting an after action review of a training event the local Iraqi Brigade conducted.

It is a stout knife!!! I have used it to break ice blocks in half. I haven't done any hard prying with it and I try to take care of it as best I can. I would feel sacrilegious if I didn't use it!!! And Jason said he built it for use so not to worry about it!

I have had a few soldiers offer to buy it from me (I will never sell it!).

I appologize for derailing this thread! If you want a knife from Jason I would suggest calling him and discussing it personaly!

Stefan, your contribution to this thread is appreciated:)

I am glad you're glad, Anthony:)
I will be even gladder when this knife shows up:D

Congrats Lorien.
Looks like Jason stuck to your drawing pretty close though made some subtle yet beneficial changes to the design.
Bet the price is reasonable as well.
