I got the call...

That's really cool. Jason clearly took your concept as a starting point, but made a Jason Knight knife out of it. And I bet it reall rocks the chopping chores.

that's the idea with a custom knife, right?:)

I think one of the coolest things about this knife is its name; The Sooke Mountain Chopper! Jason named it after my bike shop:) Brings a tear to my eye:D:thumbup:

Jason will be doing a production of this design, making ten in total. If you want one, I suggest you get on it right away. The price is quite economical and Jason's testing has shown the design to function as intended:cool:

By the way, it is tapered in both directions, the handle is held on with work hardened aluminum pins and canvas micarta is the material used for handle slabs. It's differentially hardened.

Word is, there is a nice hamon hiding under that rough ground finish... Can't wait to uncover it!

I'm really liking this knife. What's the steel?

Pretty cool having it named after your store. Congrats on a great collaboration.

W2, so you can bet there's a nice hamon in there somewhere:)

Great looking knife Lorien!
Now I know why you sounded so very happy on the phone when you got the email with the picture! Thanks for sharing bud! =)

That's bad-ass!!!

Wouldn't expect anything else from Jason though.

My thoughts echo Roger's... you can see your original sketch in that piece, but Jason definitely made it his work.

So you're going to polish it??? Maybe I just misread between the lines... ;)

yes, Nick. I am going to commit a contemptible atrocity.

*(no offense to anyone, I'm just joking around:D)

I was talking with Jason Knight today and among other things we spoke about this knife.
He was really impressed with how effective the blade was for it's size.
He mentioned doing a little video. Hope that shows up soon.

Here's another pic from Jason's blog.

I posted this following story in another forum, and although it has some repeated info from an earlier post of mine, it took so damn long to type that I want to get maximum mileage out it

I had talked with Jason back then a little informally of doing a deal for a knife. I was kind of putting a bike together for him, and after awhile the order idea fizzled. We hadn't really settled on a solid deal, and hadn't talked more than a couple of times about it. I didn't realize even that the conversation had landed me on his waiting list. At the time I didn't really know how the waiting list thing worked even.

Then, when I got the call a month or so ago, I found out he'd screwed his knees up and a bike would no longer work out. I've been pretty active, buying knives lately, and really just had very little money. I told him I would have to take a pass, because I really was trying to throttle my wallet and I didn't feel I'd have enough to get anything from him.

Jason didn't care. I was on his list, and he'd make me a knife no matter what my budget! If I only had $100, he would have made me a knife. The amazing thing is that I am getting the knife I want from him, one which I collaborated with him on. A truly custom order. What a top notch experience!

I'm getting more than I am paying for with this knife, there is no question that I could turn around and sell it for an easy 20%+ profit. And, you know, after I use it for a few years in the bush, and maybe need the money or just get tired of it, ( riiight...) I could still sell it at a profit.

I don't even have it yet, but already this knife is special for me. Jason made me feel really good about it, by making a series of ten of these knives, and pricing them affordable enough that I know whomever gets them from him will likely use them. Maybe I should start a club!

The Sooke Mountain Choppers! :D

I'm honored that Jason Knight was stoked by my design!

I heartily recommend Jason Knight as bladesmith to anyone. He is accommodating, and a smart businessman. You can trust him to make sure that you are nothing less than pleased with your blade. He understands the importance of repeat customers, and that is a rare understanding in these days.
