Well I'd use some char-coals from the grill to dish it out, but if the neighbors would not like it (and you don't like to be out playing with fire at night whilst your neighbors sleep), how bout using a drill to rough it out, you drill deepest at the center, and then less deeply out to the edges. Then rough it out with chisels, or hatchet, or kuhkri? finish it out some how, I'd likely use a rotozip or something.

Sorry to kick this back up to the top, but I got a grindie thingie too! I went to Lowe's today to see what they had in stock and it turns out the Deltas were on sale for $59! Not only that, but they were almost out of stock. The only one left was the floor model, which is now sitting in my garage. :D Now I just need some money, some belts, and something to grind.
