I hate American tantos

Most of what is being referred to as Tantos are more Kwaiken like in size

A Kwaiken is traditionally more of a utility knife

I can tell you this a well made and properly heat treated chisel ground Kwaiken is one of the most practical and convenient utility knives in my stable

I have used this one from PH for well over 20 years on 3 continents and it has always served me exceedingly well

That's a darn nice knife. Like anything, a tanto badly done is awful. But will done its great.

I don't see how anyone who has ever owned one can think an American tanto is harder to sharpen. I think the only thing ever made easier to sharpen is a straight wharncliffe. In fact, it being about a thousand times easier to sharpen than a recurve is why I like them so much. You get a focused cutting point like a recurve but don't have to even think when sharpening it.

Thank you

Very good point

Most of what people are calling american Tantos I do not care for either

But there are some outstanding examples

Truth. The older I get the more I see that this idea applies to the vast majority of things in my life.
