I hate it when...

I hate it when I'm grinding my primary bevel, flip the knife over to look at it, and touch the spine against the belt
I think I have done this 3 times, or more.... :/

I Hate it when I am enthusiastically playing ninja, and I miss swing not only damaging my freshly sharpened knife, but also throwing sparks into a new, hanging belt i hit, possibly damaging it too.....

I ninja'd in a little part underneath that though. ;)

I hate it when I have to keep remaking 6 handles all for the same knife because of an issue with each one
1st one crooked blade
2nd one sanded a hole in the side of the handle
3rd one put the pin in and it would not center ended up pushing through
4th one sanded a hole on the back of the handle
5th one not symmetrical
6th one developed a crack/split while finishing
7th one I will know soon.

sounds like you might want to slowdown a bit.. anything you try to RUSH will have "Murphy" standing there just waiting to "Help" you make any stupid mistake he can..
if you go slower it makes it much harder for him to help you do something you can not correct/fix..

defiantly rushed a few of them the last one I took my sweet old time and I think it was a flaw in the wood or too much pressure with a tight fit that it just decided to split along the grain, starting to think the blade doesn't like me or that someone keeps cursing my name for some reason.

I have a new customer who brings me their knife for resharpening every couple months. The edge is completely dull on half of the blade toward the tip. I ask what they cut and am told, "Only vegetables and some meat." I deliver the resharpened knife one day since I am out their way and see that they have a GLASS cutting board. I hate that!!!

I just had a similar teachable moment with Mom's mom about this very thing (granite cutting board, in fact). This was after I resharpened her MagnaCut chef knife, and AEB-L paring knife, the edges of which were thoroughly toast. I told her a wood cutting board would be softer than the knife and thus not hurt the edge, and so she got one. She gave me a call shortly after getting her knife back and thanked me profusely for how sharp they are, and for suggesting wood. She said it was so much easier to cut on than her old cutting board. 🤣 We know these things, but non knife people who happen to use knives may need a little education.
