I hate SPIDERS ! And anything like them..........

You want to have freaking nightmares look up the gloriously disgusting House Centipede!!!! My wife say one, and I mean one, and I had to kill it and search the entire room for any others hahaha. What makes those house centipedes creepy is how damn fast they are. It was quite a challenge to get the little bugger.

I don't mind spiders, etc., but if my wife complains, it goes outside or dies. Happy wife = Quieter wife hahaha.

My nightmare. Spider Clown, drawn by me... Sorry everyone :(

I'm on the east coast of Australia ,I live with spiders not a day goes by with out seeing a spider you don't want to get bitten by, lots of red backs [black widows]and funnel webs and quite a few types of garden spiders. You get use to dealing with them there's no choice in the matter.

Theres always a choice for Horriss the bearded dragon -shall I eat it now or later?

Great info there mate. AND always look for the male nephila lurking nearby on the web of his mrs. He is a fraction of the size and sneakily gets around undetected or else guess what happens to him at dinner time.
Minor detail (my OCD coming out) -- until 2006, the Nephila genus of spiders was in the same Family as the Argiope spiders. In 2006, based on some esoteric spider study, the Nephalids were "elevated to their own Family, the Nephilidae.

So the taxonomic structure is the same for both all the way down the chain :
Kingdom: Animalia
Philum: Arthropoda
Class: Arachnida
Order: Araneae
SubOrder: Araneomorphae
Superfamily: Araneoidea

Until 2006, both were in the same family and were kinda like "1st cousins"
Family: Araneidae
Genus: Argiope Genus: Nephila

Then in 2006, the Nephilids were elevate and so the 2 became "3rd cousins"

Family: Araneidae Family: Nephilidae
Genus: Argiope Genus: Nephila

So there's your Arachnid Taxonomy lesson for the day. :D:D:D

I've eaten quite a few bugs, I'm not sure I'm comfortable eating a spider. Maybe it's the venom thing.

Funnel web spiders or Webbos as they are known :D are one of the worlds most deadly spiders -Atraxotoxin their venom is harmless to cats and dogs but not very good if you are a primate. They are possibly the meanest toughest looking baddest spider on the planet too. This playful little fella is being milked for venom.

The White Tail Spider can do some horrible damage with a necrotising bacteria carried around on it biting parts. I have a zero tolerance policy for these at my house. In the warmer months they just pop up everywhere.Bonus feature -one of the worlds fastest running spiders- they are quiiick. I won't post pics of the injuries that occur form their bites but if you have a strong constitution search it up.

In this part of Western Arkansas we have many Scorpions. I have been stung only once, under my little toe, man that hurt for about an hour. We also have a spider called an Arkansas Chocolate Brown Tarantula. I caught one to show my Grand Son one time. He liked it so much he had to take it home. Hummmm that wasn’t the plan was it? My Daughter in law loved me for that. Hehehe…

I wonder why so many animals in Australia are deadly poisonous? Some biologist may have a theory.

I wonder why so many animals in Australia are deadly poisonous? Some biologist may have a theory.

As I understand it, the theory is 40+ million years of Australian isolation from the other continents, extreme environmental conditions (lots of deserty areas and therefore reduce sources of prey, hence the need for rapid immobilization of lunch) and evolution are the most likely reasons.

I am a fish biologist by training, not a herpetologist, so my opinions are just that. :) But I did sleep in a Motel 6 a few times. :D:D:D
