They are both very nice. The acrylic onlay on the black pearl should protect it somewhat from damage. Black pearl is one of my favorite scale materials, but pearl in general is fairly easy to damage in the field. But they make great eye candy. :D

I like to show off my Silver Knights with black pearl so here they are again:

The great thing about this decision is that you just can't make a bad choice.
Both are super nice, and whichever one you get will probably lead you to get the other as well!

Those are beautiful!

Both are pretty.

What is your planned use for the knife? Is it to be a user or a queen?

Snakewood all the way.

I like the BLP too and I wouldn't mind owning either one but the Snakewood speaks to me on a much higher level.

It's a toss-up, but I went with the snakewood. You would be happy with either one though.

Thanks for the kind words arjung. I am a fan of black lip pearl and the other shells as well, but I think black lip is my favorite. I never have gotten the hang of getting great photos of any of the shell though.

I think GEC has done some of the red abalone looking glass as well and that is pretty spectacular.

Back to the thread. It looks like you need to buy one of each; the snakewood is in the lead but it is not running away with the votes. You can't go wrong if you get them both.

I agree... just placed an order for a 48 in blp. This thread and Rick's photos (from the linked thread) reminded me how much I wanted one.

Roughly quoting from the movie Patton(he was talking about the grips of his pistols): "...Pearl is for a New Orleans pimp..."

I seen you went ahead and bought the snakewood and that would have been my choice also.

haha yep. I went with that since I have been wanting a knife in snakewood for a very long time. I love exotic woods on traditionals. While pearl is great all my knives are users. This is no exception. I decided to go with the wood. Plus only one of those were left this morning vs. 5 Pearl. SO who knows what will happen in a month or two if any pearl are left

if i thought we would see more blacklip i would go snakewood, however there's no shortage of snakewood but we may see little if any of black pearl in furture. as a collector i have to go with the pearl. if both were going to be available off & on go with the snake.

Well I like acrylics so I'm into some things that are a little different. Both materials are really terrific but I lean to the Black lip. Really nice knives!!

Snakewood is a good choice. There's still a couple of BLPs out there. My BLP came in yesterday.

I like pearl, but I don't have anything to pimp. :D :D I don't have any pearl pistol grips though. - Ed
